Positive: The staff were very nice and helpful. My room was very nice and clean. The hotel was easy to get to and it was very quiet. Whenever I am in Selma this is where I will stay. I will tell my friends and family about my stay and recommend they stay here. Negative: Honestly there is nothing that I can say about this hotel
This was an horrible experience. When I got in the room it was too late and I was too tired to change rooms. Also, I clean my own room and use my own towels anyways, when I visit hotels. Their was no cable TV the whole week. I also went two days without internet, which had me backed up at work as a remote worker. The first thing I noticed when walking into the room was the stale smell. I went in the bathroom and there was a dried up towel hanging over the shower that had been used by someone. The toilet had hair inside and on the seat. There were also streaks from whoever used the toilet last. The shower had hair and also the sink. When I decided to leave early to catch up on my work, they would not refund me for the last day. It was either stay in those conditions or leave, So, I left without being refunded. I had to drive almost 5 hours to the office, which I do not work from. Then turn around and drive about 7 hours to get back home. I lost a lot of money dealing with them, when it was their fault. I wish I had more pictures, but I had cleaned up most of the issues. The only thing I liked about the hotel was the view from the porch of the river. Beware of this place, it is not what it seems with the pictures on the internet. I have stayed in Selma plenty of times, but this was the only visit I didn't enjoy.
The walls have something running down them. The windows in the courtyard look like about to fall out. The restaurant is closed, but not mentioned until you get there. The cable is half working but it has been like that fir a whike Don't tell the ront desk about any issue they cannot help because management is not available evidently after 3:30pm. I know that because when calling the corporate help desk the lady there could not get a hold of management. Yet the corporate office cannot help you get into a different hotel without you being willing to pay 2 hotel stays. They are sorry about it but nothing we can do to help. Worthless.
St. James hotel was clean, convenient, and accommodating. This was our second stay at this hotel while visiting historic Selma, Alabama. We love having the gorgeous river view and the restaurant next door. We look forward to staying again.
Room reserved was not available. Elevator was nasty/filthy.|Bathroom shower/tub combo was covered with mildew/mold. Needs a serious cleaning with bleach. Poorly patched hole in the wall in the bathroom. Poorly lit parking only on the street and surrounded by abandoned buildings. Breakfast was a danish and a $5 cup of regular coffee ... that's the total breakfast menu. No nearby restaurants in walking distance. If you're looking for a quaint, clean historic hotel with character you can do better than this.
For a historic hotel and really the only thing going for Selma we were very disappointed. It needs a thorough cleaning starting with air filters. All soap dispensers need replacement and to stop using large bars of soap on counter. What a waste! Not enough towels. In fact my son's bridal suite didn't have any towels or soap!!! Windows need a good cleaning. Very disappointed!!
I loved staying at this place. It's really cool to be able to stay in a building that there during the Civil War. I spent time just walking around the hotel looking at the 19th century architecture. There's a back balcony with a great view of the Edmund Pettis Bridge. The inner balconies overlook a nice inner courtyard and the lobby and dining area also have a nice 19th century feel. The rooms have a nice 19th century charm but they have modern amenities like AC, Wifi, and tv. Most important for me is that everything is clean and the bed was comfortable. Finally, if you're staying in Selma you must be there for the civil rights history. You're five minutes from the bridge and visitors center and 10 minutes from the Brown Chapel AME Churh. Oh, and the side street off Water is where you park. I saw some people complain in the reviews that this was confusing. I found it quite easy and parked right in front of the entrance.
I am giving 2 starts for lack of service. The room that I was given was not ready for occupancy. No coffee machine. Air conditioning was loud and blowing warm air during nighttime. I went to the front desk few times and there was no one available to help. At one point the restaurant staff was at front desk and cannot help me because she did it know what to do. The hotel was labeled Tribute Collection but it lacks service.

I love it. The food is soooo delicious. We stay for hours, it's so relaxing. And the drinks are the bomb. Get on up and go try it for yourself. Ask for Jessica Rush. She's very welcoming, and she fixes the best drinks. She is very good at her job.

I had dinner here recently and really enjoyed it. They have a dining side of the house and a lounge side of the house. We went to the lounge to enjoy the love music. It was very busy for a Thursday and the lounge side has the feel of a drive bar and
