If you have not had the opportunity to visit St Croix Island Visitor Center, put it on your list to visit. The passport cancelation stamp is in the visitor center along with the Junior Ranger workbook. Once you complete the workbook, the Park Ranger will give you a patch instead of a normal badge. Pretty cool. Take a walk along the trail and learn about St Croix Island. Very cool, National Park. Defentily one you want to mark off your list.
I went here not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly supprised. When I got there they were having a swearing in ceremony for new citizans. I sat in the rangers welcolm center an office doing a Junior Ranger booklet. The gift sale selection is very small as its in a small room along weth everything else. I did the history walt and saw some statues of natives and the French along with a discription of each. At the end of the is a bronze recreation model of the settlement. All statues are made of bronze.
Great little spot with awesome views and staff. Historical spot with good stories of Europeans and Natives working together years before Yorktown.
Such a beautiful spot to pull off the road and get a huge taste of history. The interactive statues they had along the pathway definitely illustrated the history of St. Croix Island. We will definitely be stopping again when our daughter is a little older so that she can learn about the amazing history of the little island!
This is a small place. The Ranger was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She even helped us with our travel ideas. Their gift shop is teeny, no mugs by Deenan; there was no 'movie' that you normally have with the park. They had the passport rubber stamp, but this park has never been chosen for its individual adhesive stamp in the book. They should, but it is not the fault of this park.
St. Croix is a must stop if in the Calais area. The visitor center is very small but has some info about the first successful settlement in North America by Europeans. The park ranger is knowledgeable and friendly. You can see the island via a short hike that is very easy and just outside the visitor center. Definitely worth a visit.
This is a delightful surprise just off coastal highway 1 south of Calais, ME. A fascinating story of the history of the settlement of North America in 1604. This is a real roadside jewel that will enhance any travel plan to this area.
The displays are outside. You may come and visit during sunlight.
