This place is amazing 💜 We met them at Eastern Market. Loved them there and love them even more at their new restaurant here. Awesome food with generous portions for big eaters. Nice quiet chill ambiance just a half a block from busy U street. Special ✨
Definitely a hidden gem. They recently open the top level for indoor dining and the place is beautiful. My wife and I had the exact same entry. We had fried Red Snapper, Jollof Rice, and Cassava Leaf(doesn't normally come with but paid extra to have it). Best food I've had in a long time.
Had a 3 day conference in DC and discovered this little cozy African restaurant during my google search, located not too far from the Washington Convention Center. Chef Durant was very professional and friendly. Third time to eat the famous "Attieke" and was by far the best I've ever had.
I also appreciated the fact that the restroom was clean. Overall a 5⭐ experience and would definitely be back.
Mon prochain passage à Washington j'y retournerai volontiers. Merci beaucoup et bonne continuation.
First off, this is one of the best names for a restaurant.
Food is delicious! I ordered a quarter chicken with plantains. My friend ordered oxtail stew. Both of our meals were beyond fantastic. It's so rare to find any African food, and good African food is a gem.
This is a great place off the beaten path. In the scattering of the gentrified I street, this place has great food and character.
The server was also so kind and attentive. He gave us great suggestions and worked with our schedule (we were going to show at Lincoln theater).
The first floor has takeout, and second floor has cozy seating. Good for a night out with some girlfriends, a first date, or to try someplace new.
This food is scrumptious! The owner and the staff are very friendly. I look forward to my now weekly trips. I always get multiple meals. The beef is the most delicious and tender I've ever had. I typically don't eat beef but Spicy Water's is a must...and the chicken...and the salad. Up next, salmon! The owner shares that an upstairs setting will soon be ready and the already outside deck is cute. Do yourself a favor, patronize this place.
I first heard of Spicy Water (cool name, eh?) from Eastern Market and liked them ever since. Thing is, I'm not even really a "sandwich person." But they got me. ME! I had been meaning to go back to Eastern Market eventually to get another fix, but it's not super close to where I live, so I hadn't made it back yet. When I found out about a week ago that they were near my neighborhood? Oh, the decision was already made. Dinner is served. Enter (my belly): Spicy Water.
It's been about 2 weeks and two orders later and I'm still satisfied. I tried their beef kebab sandwich for the first time. The chicken kebab sandwich was the first and second one that I tried, and it was *muah muah*, mm mm. You know what that means. I don't have to tell you what that means. But I'm going to anyway. It was delicious, guys. If you have not tried Spicy Water at Eastern market or their new location right off U Street Corridor—why? Repent. LoL 😆. But really 😐. The sandwich I haven't tried yet is the shrimp kebob sandwich 🦐, but this will be rectified soon enough. Happy to have them near my hood!! 🤙🏾🤙🏾🙌🏾
When we see the place on the internet, everything was normal and the prices was fine, unfortunately, when we went to the restaurant, we shocked, because they charged us with 70 $ only for half “grilled” chicken, and very normal fried fish, and 2 coca. (although they didn’t written the price of the fish on the menu right close to the main door, ), we told a guy about that, at first they brought the receipt and they said there no problem (although the prices of the fish was written 35$), after around 10 minutes, he came again and apologized and gave us around 6 $ cash and said he was wrong because he tapped a wrong tab, but still, it was to much to pay 65 $ for that very 2 normal plats. We thought that we will have a nice dinner at this African restaurant, unfortunately, our experience was totally opposite. We hope the management be more clear with customers next time.

The waiters/waitresses kinda seemed like they didn't know what they were doing, but this place fortunately was saved by how fantastic the food is. Best meal I had in DC this year.
Highly recommend the Shakshuka and the Pastrami Ruben!
This place was great! Love the Italian / Japanese fusion and our server, Ryan, was awesome! We had the burrata with citrus, the Japanese Philly pizza, pepperoni onigiri, and chocolate pudding for dessert. Super cool ambiance and great service :)
