Both the Jones and Palmer courses are in good shape (even in winter conditions). Carts are rather powerless and brakes scan be sketchy but they get you around the course. They close all of the services (restrooms, snack bar, beverage cart) on the course for winter, and the bar and grill when enough employees aren’t available, so plan accordingly.
We went to the golf club to visit their shop during the festival of lights. We love this shop as it's out of the way and not many people go in. Make sure you hit the bar next door. Their cookies and hot chocolate are fabulous!
This is one of our all-time cozy spots to visit whenever we return to Wheeling for a visit. It's open to everyone, just not golfers, and offers light snacks and drinks along the well-maintained hills of Speidel Golf Course.
A lovely golf course located at Oglebay, WV. I stayed at the Wilson Lodge and had a tour of everything in the area. Speidel Golf Club looks like a golfer's dream! 😊
Played the Palmer Course, what an incredible track. Greens were firm and fast and the layout was amazing. Course was in great shape and well maintained. The views and wildlife throughout the course added for an overall wonderful round of golf. Love bent grass!
Rooms are dated. No refrigerator in the room and ice machine didn't work on our floor. Also had mold in bathroom grout. Golf courses were in great shape and offer a challenge for all levels. Pace of play is a little slow. Coach is an absolute jewel. A wealth of information and a really joy to talk to. All in all a good place for a weekend trip. Plenty of wildlife to watch.
Went for the holiday lights, the kids loved it, I was somewhat underwhelmed, but if you're local (we're not) it's a nice drive through.
Stayed at the Mooney house for my bachelor party. Absolutely blew away every expectation we had. Cannot overstate how pretty the resort is. Just an amazing place.
