The service for all staff was excellent. The view was gorgeous. The in room spa was very clean. The bed was so comfy. The breakfast in the morning was perfect for a light start to the day and a great cup of coffee. Very close to canal park. Just a short walk over the lift bridge to great dining options and several cute cocktail lounges. 10/10 we will be back!
Loved this place. It's a two level lodging with just about enough parking. Fabulous location across from the aeriel lift bridge. Into ship spotting? This is the place to be.|Has a nice outside are with seating and a fire. Across the road is the beach on the Lake, plus plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in the Canal Park area.|Rooms are very good, well equipped, clean and cozy. Roughly half the rooms overlook the lake, (surcharge) and the other half the parking lot, but that's not too bad.|Breakfast is basic motel style.
While I would have given this a 4, meeting the owners made all the difference in the world! They are a nice couple who live just a few doors from the inn and are genuinely interested in thier guests. The locale is amazing and right at the Lift Bridge, you can watch the ships go in and out through the bridge right from the hotel! The views of the lake are nice but please note that you can see the lake much better from one side than the other. They had a typical morning breakfast but did have very good bread from the local bakery and tried to have some locally sourced food. The one suggestion I have is to add some shelves or drawer space for those of us staying more than 2 or 3 days. Very nice time!
Amazing stay. It's so close to downtown/the boardwalk, while being removed enough to relax after a day of exploring. The rooms are nice, the staff is friendly, and the views are indescribable. Even if you get a cheaper room (city view) you can walk right outside and watch the lift bridge. The prices are great (you *could* find cheaper for WAY less quality, but there's also much pricier that's still less enjoyable). We've gone to Duluth 4 times in the last 6 years and stayed somewhere new every time, but after staying at South Pier, we'll be staying here every time now.
I LOVED my stay here! The beds were comfortable. Breakfast is sourced from local bakeries and coffee. And the location is out of this world! You can watch the freighers come in and out from your room. Highly recommend!
My wife and I stayed here for 1 night. We're locals. This place blew us away. We were in one of their Junior Suite King Bed Bay View rooms. It's not a "fancy" hotel, but it was very clean and well maintained. It has so many little touches that show they really want to make you feel comfy. The layout is great for privacy. The location is amazing with how it's close to Canal Park and downtown Duluth, which are both packed with restaurants, bars, local shops, and historic scenery, but South Pier Inn is nicely secluded and quiet. They also have some of the best views without having to leave the property. Then they top it off with having fresh baked goods in the morning from Johnson's Bakery, which are top notch. The pricing is super fair too. Other hotels in the area in the same price range are nowhere near as nice and don't put in the effort that South Pier Inn does. This is the only hotel I would ever recommend. We'll definitely be back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the South Pier Inn. Rooms were perfect size and the atmosphere relaxing and welcoming. Whether it was Skylar or Issiah at the front desk or the owners Betty and Dale, they made us feel right at home. Wonderful views of ships sailing in and out along with beautiful views of the city and the hillside. Took us too long to discover this place! Don't let that happen to you!
We’ve stayed here a dozen times and it’s our favorite place in Duluth. The views of the harbor and life bridge are stunning and you can’t beat watching ship traffic from your bed. The staff are always friendly and the rooms are always clean. We cannot wait to go back!
We had an incredible stay and loved that it was in the heart of the Lincoln Park neighborhood - there were lots of shopping and breweries within close walking distance. The room itself was amazing, very spacious and stylish and we felt right at home.

Oh my gosh.....the Speakeasy Suite is a DREAM! The bathroom is beyond amazing and it is the nicest room I have ever stayed in. The mansion is beautiful and well cared for. There is no doubt we will be back again and again. Love this place - A+++
Hostel du nord is the place to be! Wonderfully welcoming employees. These guys smile the brightest and hug the warmest. Always know which direction to point you in for good food. Rooms are always clean. And workers are always in the mood for a great
I love this place. I've stayed here three times over the course of 11 years. Fantastic experience with the original owners and just as good of a report for the new ones. The charm, history, views, and overall comfort of this property is exactly what
Wild State Cider has so many delicious options to choose from! Hands down one of my top favorite cidery. So delicious! I didn't try them but they also have a variety of THC infused beverages if that's more your thing!
