Sonny's Motel - Motel in Haines City - 35 US-17, USA

Honestly if you need a place to sleep on short notice, but temporarily, I’d suggest this roach nest. We called about availability and was told room 7 would be where we’d stay, however upon arrival, we were told the room wasn’t ready and instead was put in room 6. The room was small but in fairly decent condition with some cosmetic issues and few roaches which didn’t bother us, however the bathrooms shower was in questionable condition and there was a pipe running the sink water down the shower’s drain. The lady in charge told us to buy a mat or use a bag for the shower floor since the tile was dirty (even after using bleach to clean it). The refrigerator was a full size, but the freezer was the only option since the cooler was broken, which we were told would be fixed the day after we arrived but no body came to fix it until the owner kicked us out(explained later). The lady would try to come in our room with the key she had uninvited and kept asking us to pay $400 because we had a dog. We explained that the owner lowered the price since we weren’t in a big room, but she would continually ask everyday. We did what we could waiting for the room we were supposed to go to (took 3 weeks) and when another tenant wanted to go to a bigger room, she switched us into a recently vacated room until room 7 was ready. When we went in there were roaches in every part and a nest in the dresser we had to take out because of how bad the infestation was. We left for a few hours and came back to roaches in everything that wasn’t sealed, including the bed. She told us that she cleaned but there were obvious signs nothing was touched. She kept asking us to pay $400 and when we inquired about the issues, she told us they would be fixed but again, nothing came of it. I kept trying to reach the owner, but she didn’t give me their number and it wasn’t until the next morning that she come literally pounding on the door that I got to speak to him. I explained our situation and stated the treatment we were receiving and he told us to check out that night then hung up. We had no place to go and maybe $200 at the time, so I asked her to call him back and explained that we would stay if we could fix the issues. He told us to leave tomorrow and she would give back our deposit for the first room. We found a place closer to our job and began moving but when we came for the deposit, she told us she didn’t have the money and we’d have to come back again. Overall I’d give this place and management a 0, but since it was the only option and relatively close to a few spots( laundry, gas station, family dollar, grocery store) I’ll give it a 1.5

Under new management. If you are looking for a place where management treats you like family, staff is available 24/7, and any maintenance concern is taking care of in a timely manner then you should probably look somewhere else. But if you are the independent kind of type of person that wants very little contact with staff as possible and doesn't mind that sometimes little things that need to be fixed around your place might have to come out of your own pocket then this is definitely the place for you. When the lock on my door broke and I had to go buy a whole new one I was not reimbursed for it and when I told management about it I was told that sometimes you have to spend money. Which realistically it's only $18 and i did not expect any kind of reimbursement but a thank you would have been nice rather then make imply its my responsibility to fix my own problems. Luckily for him i dont mind fixing my own problems to an extent because the less i have to deal with other people the better. Thankfully they do a great job at leaving me alone for the most part. The lady he has working here that collects rent is a doll and should get a raise. She does a great job. Oh and the wifi sucks. Wish they would get that fixed

It's a bit ghetto and needs severe cosmetic work. However on specific budgets this can work just fine. Kitchens do no necessarily come with stoves so microwave cooking is your option. It's not close to much and a vehicle is necessary because no public transport is available.

Its ok for a short stay but if your looking for staying more than a few months then this isn't the place! The rooms are 2 sizes, small and large. The small is ok for 1 person, anymore than that gets crowded. The larger rooms can comfortably fit 2 adults, maybe even a small child or pet but anymore and forget it. The bathrooms are small, showers only, no central air... Each room comes with a window unit and they barely work. There are cockroaches and crazy people staying here at all times. Rent is kind of pricey for the condition of the place, $150 a week for a large room and $120 for a small. Can pay weekly or monthly. Management lives onsite but getting them to fix anything is a job itself. Rooms have refrigerators, small and full size. Large rooms have a kitchen sink in the room with a few cabinets, no stove tops though. Is located close to downtown, next to a laundromat and a few dollar stores and supermarket. No fast food for about a mile though. No phones in the rooms. A small tv is included with basic cable and free wifi, thank God!! It's not that bad, great for emergencies or for when u just cannot afford a regular motel.

A great place to stay. The staff are very friendly and are there for you if you have any issues. I would highly recommend staying here. My girlfriend and I are very satisfied with Sonny's.

The motel in great area and owner are great and are fixing up place and at the end is the best quiet and clean love the price if it Stay same

Great little motel, nice accommodating manager and priced right. Rooms were clean and fresh.
