Sonder La Ensenada - Hotel in Laguna Beach - 1600 S Coast Hwy, USA

This was definitely the best vacation I’ve had by far. The hotel was so easy to get around, and the mobile key entry was the cherry on top. Made it so much easier than having to be scared about losing a key card or leaving it in the room. And being within walking distance from the beach was amazing. I genuinely loved this place and definitely want to stay again. Staff is extremely friendly as well. 10/10.

As usual, the staff was incredible. The room was excellent. The unnecessary stress leading up to our vacation stay was neither incredible nor excellent. We had reserved our preferred room five weeks before our arrival with assurances that there would be no problem with our reservation. I called to weeks later receiving an affirmation that our reservation was intact. Two days before our arrival I received the check-in information stating that we had been assigned to a room that we would never choose to reserve. I called immediately to be told that the room probably required some kind of repair. We were reassigned to the room next door to our original request. The people in our preferred room were from North Carolina as were we. We enjoyed their company, and had many conversations. Unfortunately, we realized that we had been lied to by the Sonder representatives. We are disappointed this deception occurred. We have stayed in Sonder hotels in Europe and the US many times.

For the most part I really enjoyed being at this hotel!! There is a pool and a hot tub, the hot tub closes at 10:00 p.m. The staff at the front desk are always very helpful but there really is no room service here, so whatever towels you have in your room, definitely hold on to them!! There is a cabinet close to the front desk that you can replenish any supplies you need for your room, but it seems like they are always out of towels! Not just towels for the shower but towels for the pool. I highly suggest you bring your own towels for the pool if possible, and every time you walk by grab a couple of towels! I haven't been able to replace my wash rag or my hand towel but I have been able to get several new fresh clean shower towels. Also I thought that I was going to have a problem as far as feeding the parking meter, but it doesn't seem like they check the meters that often, so you can probably get away with parking in many spots in this area, with the exception of the main beach area, and not get ticketed. I did end up paying well over $100 to park in the garage here, but I'm thinking I probably could have gotten away with just parking on the street!! Anyway with that being said, my room was clean; my room however was kind of weird in the sense that where the coffee maker is, there's no plug to plug it in!! Also there is no power at the sink so I couldn't plug it in there either or use my blow dryer!! There is power on the floor by the front door as well as by my bedside so those are the two plugs that I used while staying in this room. The room is 101. Also, the large shower head works but the small one would not work for me I don't know if there was a trick or something....

This was our first stay at Sonder. My wife and I wanted to get a weekend away in Laguna Beach. I first spotted Sonder rooms listed on AirBnB, and then realized they looked like hotels and that I should find the original listings (BTW, AirBnB listings were more expensive than direct). ||First, understand what Sonder is; it is a "mobile first" hotel, which means that there is very few staff, if any, on site, and they expect you to use your phone for everything. Need to get into the building? Use your phone (or at least the 6 digit code they send you in the app). Need to get into the room? Same thing. This became an issue; the lock on my door only worked 1x to get into the room with my phone; every other time I had to use the 6 digit code. ||The location is great, very walkable, and close to the beach. The room was clean and well maintained, and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was clean, and it was nice to have soaps/shampoo/conditioner in bottles. However, when I needed an extra blanket, the person at the front desk pointed to a little bureau that had extra towels and let me know that was all that was available. If there had been an issue after 11pm, there was not going to be anyone to help. ||The room was on the 2nd floor, which is a bit misleading; the first floor is actually partially under ground. Our balcony was about 3-4 feet above street level. Note, if you get a first floor room, people from the street will be looking down into your room. ||I prepaid parking, but you still need to register, which is a separate web page, not available on the app, only available via QR code in the garage. ||I think the title says it all. This has the "convenience" of AirBnB, where you check in and out all non your own. The room, is a hotel room, but without any of the services a regular hotel would have, but also with out some of the costs. ||Overall had a great time but now that I know what Sonder's model is, I'll book only when it fits what I'm looking for.

People who work here are great but the booking system and the "hotel" itself are seriously lacking. Somehow we ended up with 2 rooms. Tried to cancel one of the 2 days before and had no luck. I was flat out told no. A friend who reached out on my behalf was told we could cancel one room for a credit. No thanks... The location is great! The hotel seems more like a hostel. But, a really dirty/expensive one. If you have an issue with dirt I would not recommend. My daughter’s room had urine and toilet paper in the toilet… so, there’s also that! 🤢A picture is worth a thousand words, so, see attached

Great property. Minimal touch with hosts/staff but its not a big deal. Great location, right across PCH from the beach. It's a little bit of a walk to some of the more crowded places for food and stuff, but it's totally fine. Nice pool and hot tub. We liked that we saved a few hundreds of dollars staying across the street.

Enjoyed our stay at La Ensenada. Access is easy right off of the 101. Room was spacious with large bathroom and nice amenities. Would have appreciated a couple of bottles of water, especially for coffee. Staff was friendly and helpful. We were able to catch the Laguna Beach trolley right on the 101 and it dropped us off across the street.

Quite disappointed. With this price there are so many other options out there. The room is just not the vibe as Sonder’s official pictures. The whole vibe is really just an Inn or motel? Not like a boutique hotel as its website shows.We had the two queen beds room, and there is no chair to seat in the room, which has the space for that. The air conditioning outside is super loud, and really dislike the design of hallway outside of window, very little privacy. Unlike traditional hotel, this one feel like they do not have janitor all the time. First night I come back, the elevator floor was wet, almost got me slipped and fell down, and the second morning the floor is still wet!! Besides, the location is not that great. Not really walkable to main beach, and a bit of seaview from rooftop. And they charge you $22 for parking without safety guarantee.
