Lean brisket was excellent, moist, tender, and good!
They have the best cornbread, very yummy 😋 buttery and thick like cake...I really enjoyed it.

Wow!!! I am a foodie and it I have had a hard time finding the highest and best BBQ in San Diego.. there are a lot of places that give it a good shot, but I can usually find something wrong or a hidden flavor I don’t like, or an dis-satisfactory aftertaste ranging from burnt plastic all the way to visually stimulating but flavorfully bland… not this place !! This is absolute the best BBQ Brisket I have found in a restraunt in San Diego so far.. I got a pound and ate it next door while enjoying orange mind hookah. They delivered it to my table at gran Havana, and it was straight up candy! Wonderful smoke penetration, wonderful crust, trimmed fat cap that was cooked to perfection… next time I’ll try it with warm BBQ sauce instead of cold.. give this place a chance. It was worth the $40.00 and I am so glad to have found it.
Visiting from out of town and very glad we did. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing. I recommend trying the 3X3 so you get a taste of everything. We also got the Smokin J Sandwich and it was great. Highly recommend and I will be back next time I am in town.

Service was great we ordered and the food was there within minutes. The servers were very nice and would pass by often asking if we needed anything or picking up dishes they were awesome!! Great food and good drinks i had the pulled pork tv dinner. I tasted the ribs and I loved everything but their bean crack and the ribs were the stars for me. Definitely coming back to try the brisket!! Best Bread pudding and cornbread hands down! Dont forget to order the cider👌🏽👌🏽
If you want Kansas City style BBQ come here! Inspired by Oklahoma Joes this BBQ place has it all. Amazing cider and mead on tap as well. Homemade ketchup was also a nice touch. One of the owners was there as well and one of the friendliest people you will meet.
100000% yes! I absolutely loved the tacos. The wings were crispy and still moist. The platter was the star of the show. A little taste of everything, my friend and I split everything and we still had to take some home. It was so much food. Loved every bite. Don’t sleep on this place downtown. 🫶🏻
Have been looking for an actual BBQ spot since moving to SD. I’ve had Phil’s and sadly wasn’t impressed. But when I came to Smokin J’s I instantly fell in love. The atmosphere felt like family you are well taken care of. The food feels, and tastes like home. The service is amazing and it’s very clean. I got the Brisket Chimichurri Fries which were to die for, and the bread pudding I have no words for but that alone is what will keep me coming back aside from the fantastic customer service.
