We had an intestinal emergency with our 15-year-old dog, and could not be happier with the compassionate and professional treatment all around, from front desk staff to Dr Avila. The clinic has a lovely atmosphere and a steady hum of people who know their business. We live out of town, so it was a huge relief to find a local vet who could treat our sweet boy!
I have been taking my Poodle to Smith's for the past 3.5 years. This most recent visit he was attended by Dr. Breer and Nurse Patty. I have to say this was the absolute best visit to the vet ever. They explained everything and gave valuable advice with great attention to detail and recommendations regarding my dog's health. I even got a follow up call to inquire of his progress. Simply amazing service!
We were very grateful for the compassionate professional care that our dog (and we) received from Dr. Wilcox. Dr. Wilcox is a wonderful practitioner as well as educator. She had a kind centered presence even as she delivered unexpected and anxiety-provoking news about our dog's health... and provided a clear way forward in terms of treatment options.
Smith's is a large veterinary practice here in Santa Fe, and they provide quality care despite a huge case load and shortage of vets (a national problem). They are essentially the only source in Santa Fe for emergency treatment for pets on a daily basis. Otherwise you'll need to drive to Albuquerque. Good luck with that! Yes, you can only make wellness appointments, and for anything else you show up, check-in, and wait your turn. Sometimes this can be an several hours or more. Most of us understand this and wait patiently for our pet's turn. If a critically ill animal is brought in, they treat that dog or cat right away. They have treated all five of our cats during the past18-20 years. These were all older, rescued animals. When the time came for them to pass way, the vets and vet techs were there for them and us, sitting with us during the last few minutes and giving us much needed emotional support. This is an outstanding practice, doing excellent work. On a recent trip in with our 17 year cat , Sierra, Dr. Yzeta d Avila and her vet tech could not have been more helpful which has been the case with the many vets we've seen over the years. We had to use Smiths in an emergency situation with our Whppet and everyone was amazing and compassionate. I can't say enough good things and I hugely appreciate everyone on the staff for taking such excellent care of our baby. Santa Fe is very fortunate to have them for emergency care.
Go here if you are willing to listen to what monitary value the secretary is willing place on your beloved pet. As if money is more valuable than a pet's love. I wonder if any one could put a dollar value on her life. I wonder what the owner would think if they knew she was turning away business $$$... bottom line, never been so insulted.
The doctors are good… BUT the no-appointment system is absolutely awful. I do not know who benefits from the walk-in-only protocol, but the system does not work for cats (or dogs really). You will end up sitting in the car or the lobby for HOURS. We always get here first in line around 6:45 (although they have two doors with lines for no apparent reason), wait 45 min to check in, and then still have to wait another hour even though we are first in line. Even when they request a follow up visit you still have to come as a walk in. I can’t believe this system is still ongoing.
This vet has been nothing short of amazing. I started coming here in 2020 and have never been disappointed. The vets and staff really care about the animals, and treat the customers with kindness and friendliness.

This place is wonderful. Since the brew is jun-style it creates higher alcohol, less acidity, and without the vinegar taste of kombucha while still containing millions of probiotics. With the use of honey, the flavors are all more complex and brighte
