Nice hotel. Very comfortable and clean. Pool was fun for the kids. Staff was very friendly and breakfast was excellent. Nicest breakfast buffet I have had in quite awhile. Would stay here again. Great restaurants nearby and easy access off the highway.
Worst experience with their management. My 82 years old mom and I had a two night reservation at this hotel. Due to been affected by a tornado in Texas the evening before traveling to Iowa, we were not able to leave Texas. Right after the tornado, without any power, limited communication system in my city and low cellphone battery, I reached out to request a courtesy exception to cancel my reservation without any penalty. At the same time, I reached out to my other hotels in Ames and my airlines to request the same. All hotels and my airlines were able to provide this courtesy cancellation with a full refund or credit (including for reservations booked tru 3rd party agency). Surprisingly, after several attempts to connect with their management the night of the tornado and the days after the staff informed they were not honoring the courtesy request, not even rescheduling our stay. It is very fortunate this was their decision in the middle of our local emergency. I will never book this hotel again. Book any other hotels in Iowa.

I stayed here to visit ISU with my son. It is remote from a lot of places. There are not many places to eat nearby. It is next to a bowling alley which I liked a lot. The rooms were run down. My room had patched walls that should have been painted but weren't. The bed was comfortable but the bedding was old and rundown. The TV was nice. The room had a fridge and microwave. The room uses those old style window air condition/heaters that make too much noise while you sleep. I was located on the second floor. The hallway had a weird stuffy odor. Smelled kind of like someone was cooking curry there every day that I was there. I didn't like the breakfast but only had it one day. The staff seamed very nice.
Poorest customer service ever- issue with my reservation went unresolved with adequate time(7d) to rebook the room. I travel a lot and most hotels have cancellation policies that allow some grace for plan changes. This hotel is locally owned and the GM basically stole my 2 night fee and said there is nothing they could do. The Choice Hotel customer service said local owners could have cancelled. Poor business decision.
Room was clean and comfortable, staff friendly. But the breakfast was the worst I’ve seen in years. Fake eggs, a few sausage patties, weak coffee and that’s about it. No attendant visible. The overall appearance of the food choices just turned my stomach and I’m not a picky person. We’ve gone on a lot of road trips in the past few years and this ranks as the worst breakfast.
Room was stinking so bad with foul smell couldn’t stay inside for even couple of minutes. Reported the issue to Sue in front desk and had her check the room. I asked for a cancellation and refund as she couldnt find me another room that was available at that time and she agreed. Some other person calls me next day around 3pm saying that they found a room for me and i have to take it and even if i dont take it, they will not refund me. I already booked a room another hotel that night and paid for it thru the weekend . Expedia came to rescue and took care of the refund. Thanks to them.
The hot tub was down. Pool could be warmer. The towels in the pool area was barely big enough for my 7 year old
