Edit: It’s too bad the original keeper of this site passed in 2022. The young person it went to doesn’t appreciate the history, doesn’t value the folks taking care of it, and wants it gone. Really a shame. Original: Great Arizona historical site! A very well preserved and kept AZ gem. The period structures and artifacts contained in them are pretty extensive and a pleasant surprise. Foundation caretakers are very friendly and Fred has some great stories. Friendly dogs and farm animals, but no visitor dogs allowed. Graded dirt road into property for 9 miles but it’s not bad at all, any vehicle is OK. There’s a BBQ by the pond if you want to bring some food and have a picnic (there was a family doing that during my visit). Highly recommended!
This is a must-see if you're in Cochise County! This place is fantastic on many levels! It's beautiful and historic. There are so many birds too! There is roughly 8 miles of dirt road to get there, but it is smooth and nice for a dirt road.
Well worth the drive! Fred was extremely informative and welcoming. We enjoyed all of the animals and walking through the buildings and learning about the history of the ranch.
Amazing, informative and educational. Thoroughly enjoyed the calmness of the environment. The couple that run the ranch are super nice and welcoming.
Beautiful historic ranch, in the middle if an unexpected landscape. Though Slaughter was a Southern Confederate he seems to have adopted the bold and honorful traits of the Union, as he built a life for himself and an extended family in this remote corner of Arizona's West. A beautiful remnant of the US forts still remain above the ranch almost as guardian to the moral imperatives expected from the less savory elements the Confederates fought for in trying to destroy the Nation. Truly an idyllic spot in the history of the south out West!
A slice of Arizona history, preserved and accessible. Not a theme park, not dusty and dry, Slaughter Ranch will reward the effort you put in to immersing yourself into the lives of John Slaughter and his family. 8-mile dirt road to get there? Yep - now consider what the original settlers dealt with. Caretakers (who live on the property but not in the restored buildings) are friendly and helpful, but not to the point of taking over. Recommended. Use the self-guided tour literature and breathe in an age that is past.
Really nice museum. Interesting history in a beautiful setting. Dirt road to get there. DOGS NOT ALLOWED.
Fun place to visit. We were glad we went there first thing, ended staying about 4 hours. Friar Fred and Vicki are wonderful people and have done a great job with the restoration. Well worth the drive.

The Nutella muffin was wonderful and the smoothie was tasty and healthy (to counteract the unhealthy muffin). They have made the atmosphere relaxing, but could use some couches and comfy chairs to augment their "diner" atmosphere. It's local and go
What a find! Do not miss this breakfast restaurant if you are in Douglas. Absolutely delicious home-made food. We will be back just for El Rinconcito Del Sabor.
Ole! This mexican restaurant was recommended to me by a local football mom in Douglas when I took a group to play them. The food was very flavorful and smelled great when I walked inside. Was greeted immediately and was nice and busy AND was seated i
