AMAZING!!! Their monthly star gazing evenings are truly out of this world. The volunteers are awesome and have so much to share about the night sky. You get to check out 8-10 telescopes. Truly an unforgettable evening. Make sure to arrive early for a beautiful sunset and pack a lot of layers!
I wish I could have come here at night to stargaze but was a first-timer, so I didn't get to see much during the day. On a good note, though, nobody was here. Like literally felt abandoned, which I love because I can just explore and take pictures. Only downer, restrooms were closed. I also discovered that entering Joshua Tree this way is the best. No line and took us to a cool area of JT where you can stop by to see Split Rock and Live Oak campsite. Keep going straight and basically takes you to the main entrance with all the stops on hand.
The Observatory was not open. We were there for star gazing from about 7 PM to midnight. Better stargazing than in Joshua Tree. There are good places to set up your scope and tables for equipment that you can use that are built in. The observing areas are only a short walk from the parking lot. There are still people who come there at night, even when there’s nothing to see in the area, but fortunately the parking lot is far enough away from your observing site that headlights are not too disruptive. The site was fairly windy, but that died down later that night. All in all a good place for observing.
Love going here to capture shooting 🌠 star because it far away enough from cities light and they also host education about the galaxy on the weekend so do check their website for more information
I went before nightfall so I wasn’t able to really stargaze so much here, I was really interested in the grounds though! I love the metal art pieces and the orbital installation that also gives you information on all the other planets and their orbit around the sun. The view from the top of the mountain here is really beautiful. I would recommend to bring bug spray!
Quite spot for start glazing. Red light required. Some day of the month they will have event that will need reservations.
Arrived just as the sun went down, the park itself was closed at the time but hung out in the parking lot near my car and watched the sky get dark. I was lucky and it was a new moon, there isn't any point in trying to describe it, it can't be captured in words. You can look into the same spot of sky forever and still not see all of it, the stars just never stop appearing.
I am sure this is a great experience but currently there is one event scheduled per month. While the facility is open 24/7 you can only use the telescope when a docent is there. But try to find a schedule of when someone will be there. It doesn't exist online and try to stop in yeilded no result as nobody was there day or night to assist in any type of schedule. So this place gets one star as the equipment looks great but no way to get in and experience the night sky expert for once a month. Look forward to a reply from this place on how the use of facilities can work better for the public that paid for this requirement. If you find a similar situation give this a like and a 1 star rating trip let the group know that you want to learn more about the night sky and how to use the equipment.

Wife and I have stayed here half a dozen times over the years. It's our favorite location in the Joshua Tree area, and far surpasses any experiences we have had in the Joshua Tree and 29 Palms areas. The proximity to the East entrance of the park mak
Wonderful experience! Ribeye was cooked to perfection, and my wife's Caesar salad was delicious as well (I stole some ð). It was our anniversary, so they did a complementary toast and dessert. We will definitely be back, if you're ever in 29 Pa
We had a tour today. Thanks to the Ranger and the Caretakers, it was delightful. The simple life is not what it sounds like, Mr Keys and his family worked hard! It's good to see life in the old west.
Great hike, my wife and i were out there at sun up....as the sun came up the shadows and lite wer neat to see. It was cold when we first got there, but once we got moving we warmed up quite a bit. Joshua tree is an amazing place and we are already p
