Interesting to learn about the original owners and their influence in the city of Akron. The buildings are kept cool in the summer. Volunteer staff are very nice, helpful and enthusiastic! I appreciate that they keep sheep on the grounds of "Mutton Hill" as a nod to it's origins. The adjacent John Brown house increases the educational value.
A very interesting night. The mansion looked beautiful, just light from the Christmas trees and a few lamps. The mansion has so many instances of Paranormal activities. I would go again.
There are tours of the Perkins Mansion, the John Brown House and the property. Learning about the history of this place was amazing. It is awesome to watch the sheep dogs(border collies) work the sheep that stay on the property through the spring and summer.
I had a blast flying my drone over this historical building in Akron.
My children and I went there expecting to just walk around but we're greeted by a very friendly employee who guided us to an intro video about the home and then took us to the house where we were taken on a private tour by the sweetest woman! She was very informed on all of the questions I asked and even told me about their paranormal tours and some of the things they show you on that tour. An amazing piece of history.
I love this place! Leanne knows her stuff she is a walking encyclopedia. This group loves to show off their history. Hard not to be proud of such lovely grounds and beautiful mansion.
I was born and raised in Akron and remember coming here in elementary school on a field trip. That's about all I remembered about Perkins Stone Mansion, and I've always wanted to go back. It's a pretty stone Georgian home and grounds on Copley Rd. I took a tour, and it was very interesting. There was also information about the Perkins family, and there were indeed sheep still roaming the grounds. It was a very hot June day, but it was cool inside the house due to the 14 inch solid stone walls. It felt like air conditioning. The John Brown house across the street is closed for renovations right now, but it was still worth the trip to see the area and tour Perkins Mansion.
I love Akron and its history! Simon Perkins Mansion is a "must"see for Akronites, as well as, visitors to our city. I have visited here many times, always learning something new about our great city. In fact, I learned that our family, had donated items to the Stone Mansion. I love visiting here. This house is beautiful! Lots of access and information. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour also includes John Brown House, across the street. I always recommend visiting this historical site!
