This was a great little restaurant. I heard it had a lot of history surrounding it, and I can see why. It was very vintage, and had amazing food. Our waitress was very speedy and we got our food fast. I had the meatloaf with gravy, beans, and cabbage. The food tasted fresh and the cornbread was great too. I would highly recommend going for both the food and experience.
We really enjoyed our visit here. This place is a historic place and was in a lot of movies. We drove past this place over 7 times when visiting. But we never stopped till now. There is a wait sometimes so be prepared. The space inside is small. They have old fashioned booths and a counter area to sit. The staff are very friendly and helpful. When we visited it was a cozy and pleasant visit. Prices were good also. They have pics of celebrities that have visited and also they filmed Dinner Drive -ins and Dives here. Guy Fieri will be filming her again next week. We liked this place and will return again. So make this a stop when you visit Atlanta .
DDD sent us here and this place exceeded all expectations! Biscuits are so good we ate them plain. The country ham, grits, and chicken & waffles were all done to perfection. Definitely would recommend the lemon icebox and coconut pies. Overall, well worth the detour on a roadtrip.
Went in with high expectations after recommendation from friend who hadn't gone and wanted to know about my experience. Saw all the notable stars who have come to eat there. The service was friendly and welcoming. The food was average at best. I had the chicken biscuit and hash browns with cheese and onions. They made them quick and as ordered. When I saw the food, I thought the portion was a little small but not a deal breaker if it tasted really good. It didn't. Not sure what I hoped for but instead went across town to another more familiar breakfast joint and ate what I expected was a good southern breakfast.
Definitely the place to go for breakfast or lunch. The food is just perfect and the people are way too good. We ordered the fried pork chops with collard greens and mash potatoes along with fried chicken. Guy fery thanks for the recommendation.
This is the place to eat breakfast! Open since 1956 and still very original feeling! The whole family loved the food! I recommend the omelet and cheese grits! Classic southern breakfast taste to perfection! Lots of really neat history about it inside. We loved it so much that we bought some tee shirts before we left! We will be back again one day for sure!!!
While visiting Atlanta I came across this restaurant. Upon passing it on my arrival in town, I noticed it had a line, so I took a mental note to double back, and I’m glad I did. The food was great! I ordered the veggie omelette, cheese grits with raisin bread as toast, and a slice of their ice box lemon pie, which is home made and rumored to be favorite, and I see why, cause it was good and didn’t disappoint. My service was great as well, staff was very friendly, inviting, and made you feel right at home, even got a little history lesson on the restaurant as you can tell from the decor and atmosphere that it’s family run and operated. My overall experience was great, and whenever I’m in town I’ll definitely be back. Thanks Silver Skillet!
ICONIC BUT DISAPPOINTING You walk into the Silver Skillet and it’s like stepping back in time 50 years to the dinners of the 60’s and 70’s. The décor is amazing, with walls filled with symbols of the day, including a side-by-side picture of the restaurant with the Atlanta skyline today and back then. And the service on a Saturday morning was delightful. Of course, there was a wait as we sat on the shaded bench outside the restaurant, but the greeter was cheerful and efficient and the wait staff upbeat and friendly. We so wanted to love this place! Unfortunately, our meals were well below expectation. Our meal included two Super Skillets (onion, ham, green peppers, cheese, tomato) – one with mushrooms added – along with waffles, pancakes, grits and a side of bacon. The pancakes were indeed delicious, and the bacon was crispy as requested. But the grits were just okay, the waffles were tasteless, and the omelets were stuff with a ground ham that made the dish unenjoyable. We walked away surprised at how disappointed we were with the meal. As an aside, if you are a clean freak, the Silver Skillet is probably not the best place for you. The walls were dingy, the fabric on the booths needed a real scrubbing, the silver was far from sparkly…just an overall feeling of “not fully clean.”
This restaurant was great for brunch! Bring your appetite and your love of biscuits. The biscuits are huge yet light and fluffy with lots of layers and also texture. Yes, they are that good! The pepper jelly and blueberry jam were amazing too. We had
Never eaten here before, and when I saw it on DoorDash (with a breakfast frame of mind), decided to give it a try. Ordered the Getaway Breakfast sandwich on Texas toast, with sides of cheese grits, biscuit & gravy, and hash browns. Order arrived quic
The chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection, juicy on the inside with a perfectly crisp exterior. The candied yams and collard greens were a testament to authentic Southern cooking, each bite bursting with flavor. The portion sizes were generou
