Siloam Mountain Park - Park in Excelsior Springs - 607 Ellsworth St, USA

My son was in town from San Diego. I am getting over Covid. We chose Excelsior Springs as our halfway point and brought our own lunches. The park was deserted when we arrived. We sat at different picnic tables for our visit. It is a very pretty park with play equipment near each gazebo. The area was clean and pleasant.

Love the walking trail here its the best hands down. Great experience with nature and little hidden spots off the trail

Very quiet park. My husband and I stayed at The Elms and would walk to Siloam Mountain Park each day. Seems well maintained. Beautiful wildlife and great bird watching!

I love this park and have loved it since I first visited it in 1981. They have really updated the shelters, playgrounds, and especially the walking trail. Part of the trail has been there since the very early 1900s and is great for seeing the nature. It starts off at the "top" with wood decking and rails. Lots of stairs at first as it descends. Half-way down the trail you have the option to keep on the well-built path, or you can take the old nature hike on the path that was there for about a century. Taking the original off-beaten path, you come across some resting areas - stone and concrete benches that have been there a very very long time. I have never been able to find out how long they have been there, but they definitely precede the 1980's - probably even before the 1970's, as they were already very worn showing signs of age by 1980. This old path takes you through Isley Park Woods and eventually down to the East Valley Park at the bottom. Some of the old path has deteriorated the past few decades... in the 1980's I used to be able to ride a bike through it, but some areas now I would stick to just being on foot. Most of the path is an easy hike, but the parts that have seriously weathered and could be challenging with footing. Lastly, the old path used to to have two wooden bridges that crossed a small gully. The path now takes you away from this and directly into East Valley Park. But you can walk over the gully and keep going if you like. Back at the top of "Siloam Mountain", there is the iconic white cross dedicated to Veterans. It can be seen across the valley of Excelsior Springs. This park is gorgeous year-round. You will find many pictures posted in Autumn, but even during the Winter when the foliage is gone from the trees, you can see out over Excelsior's valley and it is wonderful. Finally, did you know that Siloam Mountain Park used to be called Carnation Hill? In the very early 1900's during Excelsior's heyday with the bath houses and mineral springs, the park was home to a rather luxurious camp site with tents to stay at other than at one of the many hotels at the time. It is said that the owner of the camp would give out carnations every morning. There is a long history with this park. A neighbor of mine who had lived near the park his entire life, says he remembers walking the old trail path when he was in secondary school... mind you he graduated in 1932. So it's by no surprise you will find traces of that old history in this park. Some are obvious, but some are not so obvious. And some have decayed or weathered away, never to be seen again. There is a staircase to be discovered as you rest at one of the places along the old trail path (vicinity 39.337440, -94.217770). When were they put there? Who knows. There is a limestone and concrete structure along the path (39.336630, -94.221171) going up to the park nestled in the foliage; what was its purpose and when was it built? It's hard to tell. And then there are just memories of a long-forgotten outdoor "theater" (39.337040, -94.221166) that was last seen in the mid-1980's. So if you are staying at The Elms or with family in Excelsior, make sure to visit this park... at the top of Excelsior's "mountain".

Found this park as we were planning out day trip to ES. This park turned out to be exactly what we were hoping! A nice place to play, swings were in another location, which seems like a wise choice to spread out the fun! Plenty of room and shelters with long picnic tables. There was a paved trail that looked nice too. Public bathroom was locked🤷🏻‍♀️ but there were porta potties down the road. Plenty of shade and sun 😎

Pretty place. Lots of shade. Peaceful environments. All around a pretty place. HOWEVER, inspect the areas that your children go to. Especially the restrooms. I checked before my son used it and there was a syringe with something in it right where he would have sat. The cap was on but nevertheless, it was there.

Really great park especially in the Fall. My family love to walk around this park. It's quite peaceful.
