Shell Island Resort - Resort hotel in Wrightsville Beach - 2700 N Lumina Ave, USA

My wife and I have stayed there 5 times and when we go back to the beach, we’ll staying there again without any doubt. It’s also a great place for a family or couple getaway. The location in my opinion is the BEST location on Wrightsville Beach. All the Rooms have beach front views and the amenities are all there including the peer, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a nice restaurant and Bar. It is also convenient to other great dining areas within 5-10 minutes.

When looking for a place on the beach near family, it came down to price and just the right kind of room. We enjoy seeing the ocean. Spending time on the beach is not what we want to do. When we saw the wall of windows overlooking the ocean, we knew Shell Island Resort was for us. Reasonably priced rooms clinched the deal. The staff was more than helpful from check in, to a minor maintenance issue - thanks John- , and to check out. Everyone made us feel welcomed. One word about location. Shell Island Resort is situated in a more residential setting. This makes the area quieter and less busy after hours. Anything you would need is only about 10 to 20 minutes or from the property.

Service, friendly, atmosphere all love. Shell Island Resort is at the end of the beach with great views. On those cold nights enjoy the heated pool inside and those intimate nights whatever your temperature might be enjoying the hot tub outside. Always crisp clean atmosphere. They also have conference / banquet rooms for Events. Wedding party, Christmas party, Receptions.

The rooms here seemed to be rented by individual owners and all were different. Mine had a king size bed in the bedroom and a Murphy bed in the living/kitchen area. The view is gorgeous. Some parts of the unit were not clean, especially rugs and floors. I enjoyed my stay anyway.

First let me start by saying the staff couldn't be any nicer. I don't like leaving reviews like this, and rarely leave any reviews at all but I felt people should know a few things prior to booking. Pros: Comfortable bed. Beautiful ocean view. Spacious room. Lobby was clean. Parking was easy. Pool well-maintained. Let us stay an extra hour after check out without a fee. It was pretty quiet at night. Cons: The room I booked was stated as recently refurbished. We walked into a dated, dirty looking room, with a bug on the bed to greet us. The bathrooms both looked like they needed a good scouring. The room heavily smelled of that bad all-purpose cleaner some establishments use and it was lingering hard. I went to the front desk, and they switched us out the room without complaint. The second room was more up to date, respectable kept (not spotless) and didn't reek of cleaner. For a hotel that accommodates weddings, I thought it odd that the room didn't have a full length mirror (small detail) and that the only in-room amenities were shampoo, conditioner and a small bar soap. The bath towels were well past the time they should have been recycled to elsewhere. They didn't offer daily housekeeping due to the pandemic for the safety of their staff but we are pretty well past that now and I'm sure it's to keep costs down for the establishment. If we needed something we were told to call. Breakfast: The food was nothing special and when they opened the restaurant at 8:00am it was like a cattle rush of people and only one poor soul taking care of everyone. They soon brought more people in to help. I suggest hopping in the car to a nearby restaurant or bring your own food to cook in the room. Did I hate it? No. Would I return? It's unlikely. Like I said, the staff was super nice so I assume this must have more to do with the hotel owner or management's lack of budget.

Our "room" was actually a suite. A king-sized bed, a Jacuzzi bath, and a sitting room with TV, kitchenette, kitchen table, and balcony. Amazing! Every room appears to be oceanfront. When I booked it, I paid $10 extra which we think got us a corner room, which offered windows on the side. It was clean and acceptable, but the bathroom sink could have used some work. I know people who have returned there many times. There is a restaurant in the building, but we only used it to get coffee to take with us out on the beach. In mid-September there was almost no one on the beach. The weather was great, but no crowds! The Oceanic restaurant (highly recommended) is a good distance away. Plan to use your car.

Each room is has a different owner so check it out before agreeing to the room. 116 is first floor with a walkout patio near the pool. The colors are pleasant blue/white with 2 beds in bedroom, Room was dusty but linens were clean. The dining area with 2 ladderback chairs and 1 wooden chair. Kitchen has a 2 burner electric stovetop, Microwave, Apartment size refrigerator, with set of dishes, pans, silverware, and glasses. There is no light over kitchen sink. It was missing. Bathroom sinks were missing a drain plug.1st bathroom commode flushed slowly,2nd bathroom commode rocked from side to side. When reported on 10/27 maintenance shimmed it but then water/urine leaked from right side when it was flushed. This unit has a jacuzzi tub with shower. The jets were black with mold and operating knobs were missing. The commodes are short. If you have knee issues or replacements stepping into tub to shower maybe an issue. All issues were reported and will be addressed per Trinity Lee. We have stayed at Shell Island for many years They have outdoor pool, hot tub, heated indoor pool (that needed to be Cleaned) but it has great access to beach. It is quiet, can be a good wedding venue, and the food is ok.

Overall satisfied with this hotel. Fantastic jotel location and great views from the room. Off the beaten path. The hotel is a bit dated and could use some updates. Understaffed during the holidays so trash built up and not great service. Restaurants were shutdown. Satisfied with the room and front desk staff. Be aware when booking there are high taxes and when I showed up was also charged $22 per day for resort fees and parking.
