Stayed in one of the motel rooms for a weekend to attend a wedding, super easy check-in/check-out (they even gave us a little wiggle room checking out). Gorgeous location right next to the river, lots of cool seafood & local restaurants nearby. The room was up to par for a motel and the climate control was exceptional. Only things to be aware of are no mini fridge and a shower that's hard to keep all the water in, but those are easy enough to work around. Would stay again!

This place is adorable, affordable and extremely clean!!! We stayed in the inn section of this property. Very old building with so much charm in our room but nicely updated. Was greeted warmly upon our arrival. Was able to get into our room a bit early..thank you! They are right on the river so we could sit on our deck or in their chairs by the water and watch the boats come and go. Great central location to the area’s we wanted to visit, Rockport, Newburyport, Gloucester and Georgetown. I would recommend Shea and if we are in the area, would stay there again.

The room we had (4-King) was not worth the extra cost. The steep stairs to get to it and the room’s uneven and slanted floor may be a challenge for some people. The bed was comfortable. The temp was comfortable. The bathroom was very nice. The shower is big! The outdoor balcony with seating was ok (has potential). We especially enjoyed the hospitality when checking in, sitting on the chairs watching the Riverboats pass, playing corn hole (even if it was broken and literally on its last leg!), and walking up and down the street to explore. No coffee or ice, but there is a Dunkin across the street and a convenience store (that sells wine) a few minutes down the street. Overall, we had a good visit, but I’m not sure we would choose this particular room again.

We stayed in the Motel on our anniversary in the smallest room as it was the only one available. My husband hurt his leg as soon as he entered the room because there is no space around the bed and the wooden bed frame extends past the mattress. We also noticed a horrible musty smell and opened the windows and door to get fresh air. There was a long blond hair on my sheets. The office was closed so I had to sleep on top of my towel. I had hoped it was the cleaning persons hair and not a dirty set from previous guests. The office manager was so very kind and confirmed the cleaning person has long blonde hair. That made me feel better until I wiped water off the bathroom floor and the tissue was dark and dirty. The smell was too much for me the second night and I slept in my car for several hours. The location is beautiful, the staff kind and price was reasonable but cleanliness and having a safe and healthy space is the most important to me.

What a wonderful place to stay! The view is breathtaking, and you can enjoy it from a small private beach. The river, the marshes, the town, the sunsets... So calming. The staff was amicable and helpful. There are plenty of great restaurants within a walking distance. My only suggestion is about the need for a fridge in the room. It would be very useful to have one for cooling beverages or some snacks. Otherwise, it was perfect and I wish I could have stayed for more than two nights.

This inn is the typical old fashioned New England type hotel right on an estuary in the beautiful village of Essex. The room was clean and the bed was super comfortable. My reception was was very friendly and helpful. I will, indeed, stay at Shea's again when I go up to the northshore.

We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be coming back! My partner and I stayed in the cottage. It was very spacious, clean and beautiful. Nice, quiet area, with a cafe just down the street that we walked to in the morning. Our favorite part was the waterfront view. Across the board 10/10 stars.

Their location is great, (my score is mostly based on that) one can walk to restaurants, or just stroll around town. I stayed there 2x, both rooms were small. I didn't like that you couldn't open any windows. And the AC unit was noisy. Fortunately I didn't need it. Staff was friendly, helpful. I wish they provided kettle in the office to make hot drinks or a coupon to one of the coffee shops, like Googans, for a free hot drink.

Outstanding seafood and kids meals were delicious. Baked haddock boat w/ onion rings were great. Both The fried calamari and clam chowder soup were the best I’ve ever had. The kids chicken fingers were great too, lightly battered and fried.

Great new place on the water. There are a variety of places to sit, indoors, on the deck or at the bar. We elected to sit at the bar given the time of year. Jesse poured some great cocktails and the food is way above average. I had the shrimp and gri
