Nice big open areas to fish and camp. We went there to check out the rockhounding and it was starting to get dark. Quiet with no one in sight. Would have given 5 star but some unsavory characters showed up and we left. UPDATE: I went there early morning with my wife and we were surprised to see all the trash left behind by disrespectful people. We saw 1 dumpster and it was overflowing. Alot of glass everywhere. We didn't fish or camp, we just enjoyed the wildlife noises and lack of people. They definitely need more dumpsters around the campgrounds. The fog was really cool as well.
Not a bad little lake..no camping allowed..that sucks..looks like the huge Lilly pads are taking over!
Very nice clean lake camp there for a few nights had a fabulous time beautiful sunrises and sunsets
Pretty nice here, people tend to leave it quite a mess sometimes though. There's lots of glass everywhere. Other than that, and the occasional rude person that comes by, not a bad place to be.
Great park with free camping for RVs and tents. Vault toilets were appreciated, bring your own tp! Spent a lot of time fishing, for sure don't try to fish without a license, the ranger came by regularly to check permits and caught fish. Also it seems to be mostly a catfish spot, caught a couple small bass and saw a few big carp jump out of the water. Watch out for snakes! And ticks dropping from the trees.
Nice little lake, but the facilities are in rough shape. The toilets are not too bad, but there's little else to talk about.
My dog and I love riding the quad out in the country.
We love coming out here. It's so quiet and the stars on a clear night are amazing. Great place to watch a meteor shower
Lake Shawnee is one of my favorite places in Topeka. I have spent a lot of time here, playing with my kids, walking my dog, fishing, riding my bicycle, and enjoying the garden. Bring your kids, your significant other, your dogs, and/ or your friends.
Not from Topeka but thoroughly enjoyed our walk in the park. Wide and well-maintained cement paths, large mature shade trees and so many things to do and see such as the gardens, carousel, zoo, train, playground/picnic areas, zoo and so much more. We
Went for a wedding reception inside, pretty roomy, big kitchen area, bathrooms, clean, not to hot or cold inside but we did keep the door open b/c we had quite a few people. The little kids had a blast running playing in the play set they have out th
Great place for a run, walk, walk with the dogs, bike ride. Nice scenery and wild life sightings if you get out early, and the right time of the season; deer, turkey and of course squirrels.
I showed up at sunset it was beautiful. I saw two owls. Then I went to play on the teeter totter then fell off and started bleeding bad. But luckily the near by Churches chicken was very helpful and bandaged me up well. The water fountain also was go
I hadn't been here in years..decided to take my son yesterday & I was very impressed! This place is awesome!! The trails through the woods are the best! We walked 4.4 miles & I could of stayed for hours!! Will definitely hit these trails again!!
