The place feels like home , the island lifestyle that a senior like me craves, its a Zen , lush garden and sounds of nature and birds are your background. My bed was very comfy, big spacious room Cynthia is very accommodating and very helpful with recommendations, I stayed for a week and I was rejuvenated, worth every penny spent, will recommend and will be back for sure.
OMG, The host was so nice, She provided transportation from Hilo airport to the Hotel, made breakfast and even gave me a ride to the rental car company the next day after arriving. The Home/AirBNB was very clean,with comfortable spacious bed. The location is very close to the mall,grocery stores, movie theater ect, walkable, the neighborhood is guite, well kept and friendly. I look forward to a return trip.
Cynthia was super accommodating, giving me a room when my plans fell through on short notice one night. And she graciously let me stay in the lobby for a few hours after checkout before heading off to my next destination. A real lifesaver!
Stayed for a week , a great experience. Itook after dinner walks as late as 11 PM & felt safe . Stores are walking distance , very convenient Cynthia made sure I was comfortable, will be back again!
The guesthouse is a lovely two story and spacious home. So nice looking out the airy living area to the lush garden. Great selection for breakfast and good value for money. Very quiet location but still walking distance to shops, restaurants, mall, cinema and bus stops. Perfect if you have a hire car with plenty of parking. I was able to borrow the bike, snorkel and floatie for the gorgeous beaches nearby. Felt very welcomed, safe and well looked after - would highly recommend. I also stayed at the Shaka Shak Studios which is in downtown Hilo and walking distance to everything and even better if you don’t have a car.
What a lovely place to stay! Cynthia was so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Reservation and check-in was uncomplicated. We stayed in one of the small downstairs suites and it had all we needed for two nights. We had a great time and would recommend anyone staying in Hilo to consider Shaka Shak!
You will get a decent 1 star or hostel type of room with shared bathroom between other 2 rooms. Most likely you will have street parking, block away. Maybe you will find used band-aid next to your bed. Maybe the window will smash your fingers if you try to close it because of continuous noise of someone abusing their dog downstairs. Maybe they also want to fix their beds head board. Not at all what they described, very disappointed!
I needed a one night stay for a family emergency in Hilo. The family member could not accommodate me so I checked for B&Bs in Hilo. I found the website for Shaka Shak and made a reservation. I arrived before my scheduled time and was shocked to see that the actual place was unkempt and overgrown with bushes. I didn't feel I could rest comfortably there so I quickly canceled my reservation within 10-15 minutes since making the reservation. Booking.com emailed me that they encouraged the owner to waive the charges. However the owner stated that business has been slow and she has a business to run so she charged me the full amount. She didn't care about my situation. Just wanted her money. I filed a complaint with Hawaii Tourism Authority for false advertising.
