Oh man, this place is wonderful! We stayed in the Napa Suite and it was so luxurious! The bed was so comfortable, the shower was so relaxing, and the heated toilet seat was such a nice touch! ;) It has a huge bathroom with a separate, gorgeous tub, lots of great lighting for doing makeup, and an epic television in the living room! So many lovely details. The entire staff is SO sweet made us feel so welcome and taken care of. It's overall such a chill, happy, calm, fun atmosphere! We got to have the brunch and a dinner there and both were delicious, with great service! Can't wait to come back!

Fabulous weekend visit at The Shade! Top notch hospitality and friendly staff. Bar and restaurant are amazing with tasty food and yummy cocktails. Our newly renovated room was very modern, tricked out lighting, smart TV (Apple TV and all the usual apps), and very comfortable bedding. Walk to town, pier and all the restaurants and bars at your doorstep.

First off the staff was exceptional. Everyone was nice and helpful. Service was great. Food at the bar was amazing. My room was disappointing to say the least. The carpet was falling apart and so dirty I felt keeping my shoes on necessary. The tiles were cracked and broken in the bathroom. The curtain was extremely difficult to close and shredded. The TV in our room didn't work at all and was not a smart tv as in other rooms. The WiFi went in and out so much it was impossible to stream on any device- and no tv. I wish this room was what had been advertised so I could have opted stay elsewhere. They said they couldn't change our room. Overall disappointed. If you get a new room it's probably a lovely stay.

This spot is luxurious, while also being super chill. The employees are super sweet and welcoming, and the location is unbeatable. It was the coolest room I've ever stayed in! And an excellent restaurant (Zinc) on the first floor. Sweet spot for brunch!

The most exquisite and welcoming boutique hotel I’ve stayed in! A five star experience all the way around. Will stay much longer next time and plan to bring additional couples for a perfect staycation

Four-night stay Nov 2023. Outstanding location, center of Man Bch but…small older rooms, dated bathrooms/plumbing, dated decor, old (free) bikes, etc. Very pleasant, courteous staff; nice restaurant/bar; $20/person/night “surprise” resort fee(!) on top of room rate. 3-3.5 facility at best in 5 location.

Found a great rate on Plus (love my Plus!) and stayed here a couple of nights when visiting my team out here. The Shade looks to be one of those retrofitted motel/hotels, and they did a very nice job. The room was large, with a huge hot tub and nice lighting accents, and the main bar/restaurant had a nice menu. I didn't get to enjoy lovely Manhattan beach because of work, but it's right there and they have bicycles, etc. Great option for a visit if the price is right!

I'm sorry, but I just don't get this hotel!||Room is dark, and so many lighting switches that it's very confusing. ||Room set-up is not comfortable - huge Jacuzzi tub takes up too much room, and therefore not enough room for more than one person to sit comfortably. ||Furniture and movable walls are supposed to be cool, but it's really poor quality, and not easy to adjust. ||Shower is average, and there are no towel bars to hang your towels. Not the biggest thing, but sort of speaks to the fact that rooms are not well layed-out. ||Staff is very, very good, as is Zinc restaurant. Huge plus, and worth noting. ||Carpeting up the stairs and in room is soiled and very tired. Should be replaced. ||All-up, the location is terrific, staff is great, and restaurant very good. But room, is not comfortably layed-out, accommodations are average at best, and you pay top-dollar for an average (at best) room. |/jw
