We love Grand Haven and have stayed at different places near the waterfront. This place is pricey for what you get.||||We stayed in the Carriage House. ||||Pros: The folks were friendly at Serendipity and the rooms (& floors) were clean. In fact the floors looked brand new. Kitchen had most needed dishes. Water pressure was great. Coffee was provided. WiFi was great.||||Cons: Some upkeep is needed. The corner shower had a shower curtain that would not stay in placement which provided a unique showering experience. The room did not have a hair dryer or iron and I did not think to look until getting ready in the morning. Staff was not available until 10am so I went to church a little unkept. We also had no salt and pepper. The doors and walls are thin and every bump in the hallway or door closed was heard.||||I am unsure if we will return.

We wanted to bring our 4 month puppy on a beach vacation for my birthday. We found Grand Haven as a dog friendly place, and we were truly happy with the outcome of the trip! Serendipity is a walk to the beach (about a mile), but it isn’t too bad. The room was perfect size with kitchen, fridge, couch/futon, tv, WiFi, tons of closet space, and kitchen items. Since we booked a week in advance, we got the last queen size bed and it was quite comfy. Place was clean and the owners were very nice. Unfortunately since you are sharing a house with 3 other rooms besides yours, you do hear a lot of noise and door slamming. So don’t expect it to be noise proof at all. They do not allow dogs in the fenced in pool area, but do allow them in the back were it’s mostly fenced off by the fire pit and addition bar height seating. The cottages were a very quick walk to the Main Street of restaurants and shopping, also mostly dog friendly.

Stayed in light house for my cousins birthday and it was awesome! The older house is so unique and historic and the staff does a nice job giving each room it’s own cozy feeling! The location is great, be aware it’s like city life so you’re gonna get lights and noises you can hear in your room. The pool, grilling, and fire pit are worth every cent! Staff is so helpful and friendly. I read some reviews talking bad about this resort but I would disagree with all of them, Serendipity Resort was a trip my family will never forget!

We gathered 36 family members together for a long weekend in July 2014 to celebrate our wedding. All of our family stayed at Serendipity, in a total of 11 suites. We were extremely pleased with the accommodations. Serendipity gets lots of little things right, from thoughtful touches in the kitchens to lovely linens. The bathrooms are gorgeous--modern, tiled, with wonderful "rain" style shower heads. The pool is great, and there are multiple other outdoor spaces where groups can gather to eat and talk. The on-site staff are friendly and helpful, keeping an eye on every little thing and making sure everyone is comfortable. The location in downtown Grand Haven is perfect--we could walk to everything. It's amazing that Serendipity was able to create this facility in downtown Grand Haven. We are fans and our family are already making plans to come back next summer.

For the third year in a row our family has stayed and enjoyed the Coast Guard Festival at the Serendipity Resort in Grand Haven, MI - Coast Guard City, USA! As in the past, our stay was great. The location of the resort is perfect for families, as you are one block from the carnival so you can walk there at any time, but you are also far enough away to not hear the noise when you are ready to wind down and sleep. The staff was friendly and very helpful, per the usual. The pool, parking and amenities were perfect as well. We look forward to booking our stay for next year!

Myself and my three teens stayed one night at the water bound bottom unit. (every time someone in the upper unit moves you can hear them) It was very dirty. The shower was full of black mold. All on and around the door, on all the walls- it was gross and most likely a health hazard. There was a sketchy whole in the wall in the bathroom. After taking a shower my son walked barefoot on the floors for not even five minutes and his feet were black on the bottom. The carpet in bedroom was stained and gross as well as the couch that was also stained and smelled like dirty dog slobber. There was no cozy or comfortable feeling in this place. No TV in either bedroom. Although its located across from the beach, there is not a good view. Its the main road in front with the camp ground across the street so all you see are large campers. Very disappointed and will not stay with them again- it was deffinatly not worth 245.+tax. I did not contact customer service when we first arrived because it was 4/5 pm and we went straight over to the beach and then went to dinner. After we watched the musical fountain and walked back to the cottage is when we realized how dirty everything was (That was after 11pm) I tried to speak with management in the morning but it seems everyone there is a "manager". All they said the first time I spoke with them was" ok, we will take care of that." On our ride home later that day, I wasn't feeling satisfied with the response I received earlier so I called again and this time I spoke with a different manager (both time they were young girls) she stated she didn't have authority to do anything that she would need to talk to her boss (thats who I wanted to speak to the first time). The following morning I did get a call from a women that said she was co-owner and did admit to the moldy shower because it needs work but said she had nothing to offer me. hmmmm- hows that for customer service and trying to make things right? :(

My whole family was there for my parents' 40th Anniversary. ||Pros: Location, location, location. Close to all things in town and the pier/lighthouse. Resort had a nice grilling area, fire pit, and tiki hut. Many nice beaches within a short drive. We walked to the Armory most mornings for coffee at Aldea. They also have a brewery inside and a bbq joint. Our favorite was Kirk Beach. We loved the entire town. Many great breweries and biking trails. We went into Grand Rapids for the mountain biking trails though. We enjoyed Merrell for us and Luton park for the kids. Will be coming back. Loved what Michigan had to offer. First time staying in Michigan. ||Cons: sand area under hammock goes right into the pool everyone uses. There is no shower nearby. Common area is smaller in general if several big families are staying at the resort. Hard to not be overtaken by one large group. We stayed in three units. ||Lille 4: Several flights of stairs which can be a lot when moving suitcases/groceries up if you are a bit older. The air also wasn't working in July. We had numerous people look at it and try to help. For all units the air is controlled by the main house. Not ideal if you want to increase or decrease the temp. You have to call them. Overall not ideal for my parents' 40th Anniv stay. They were super hot in their unit. Other than that it's very nice in the room. Spacious with two beds, nice bathroom and kitchen area. ||Light house 1: The porch that both units use has windows that kids knock on and look in and instead of the area inside being a living room it's an open bedroom area with two beds. Main door both shared units use is super loud and slams shut when you open and close it. ||Cottage Rose 1: Very misleading in that it sleeps 8. Definitely should say 6 at the most. Smaller size refrigerator, oven, kitchen. Hard when 8 people staying and not even a standard size refrigerator. The two beds upstairs are nice, but we had to put an air mattress in our tiny kitchen. The other bed was in a room that ONLY fit a bed and all rooms had sheer, lacy curtains. No dressers/chests, etc anywhere. All 8 of us living out of suitcases and no place for these. Only one tiny closet. We had to buy hangers and adhesive hooks to hang towels up and some of our clothes. Definitely would only stay here with four people. ||Overall enjoyed our stay, but misleading on how many people could stay in the units comfortably. Would book more units next time or stay somewhere else with more space. People taking care of the resort were great!

We stayed in the lighthouse and rented both upstairs and down. First, they don't tell you the housekeeping staff is downstairs in this building, they are in and out and every time the door closes the door to our unit rattles and wakes you beginning at 7 am. The place is so dirty and floors we so dirty, that all of us had to wear shoes. We cleaned the kitchen floor our selves and the others floors were wood and could not be cleaned by a mop. The back porch has steps but around the steps are mud and has a lot of traffic by the college kids that do the housekeeping. ||The lighthouse has grills for everyone to use and are very close to the house, our smoke alarms went off when other guests were grilling. The house smelled of smoke for hours. ||The other units were occupied by a family reunion, we could not get in the fire pit or the tiki hut or get a lounge chair due to the large size of the crowd. We had children and they over took the music and had to ask them to change the music because of the f bombs in the music. ||The air conditioning is controlled downstairs, where the housekeeping staff is, at one point we were wondering why it was so hot and found out someone turned the air off. ||I'm sorry but I could not find too many good things to say about this resort my advice is to look elsewhere, there are many many rentals that are much nicer and also less expensive.
