Susan and Douglas were lovely hosts. Our unit was clean and cozy with so many wonderful
stocked items. We forgot we were in town because of the peace and quiet around the area. We highly recommend their B&B, however, they don't do the breakfasts anymore. No problem, there are great places within walking distance.
The owner Susan Walters treated me terribly. When I arrived I rang the doorbell, she opened the front door and immediately locked the screen door and shouted “What do you want!?” in a hateful voice. Then when I finally convinced her I had reservations she called her husband Doug to “walk me to my room.” There’s creepy dolls and way too much clutter everywhere. It was claustrophobic. On top of that my room was ransacked. Not sure if they were looking to rob me I don’t leave valuables when I step out so Susan must have been very disappointed. I felt so violated that my trip ended right there. I will never stay here again. Beware!!!!
This place was amazing! The room was gorgeous, and the host were amazing. In our room, there were handmade lamps, made by Doug, one of the owners...they were a wonderful touch! They even have little notes around the room explaining the decor and history of the area. They have a relaxing courtyard that is perfect to start and end your day. Make sure you take the tour of the home, you will not be disappointed, the place is gorgeous! AND ask Doug for a personal tour of the Independence Square in their 1926 Studebaker...the BEST way to see the historic square! You must go visit them for a wonderful getaway!
This hotel scored a 100 out of 5. I found the entire experience of staying, in what to me, was way beyond any comforting feeling I could have imagined. There were candies left out, sodas in the fridge, a full small kitchen, bath, and antiques galore!! I browsed books, studied signs that went with antiquities I have never seen in all of my worldly museum perusing.
I felt so blessed to be able to stay there that I am already planning my next stay.
I walked to the Civil Courts, had lunch at Dave’s Diner, and learned a great deal of American History, and felt the path was opened by so many who came before me.
Harry S Truman’s statues and a historic community, the square, his chambers and courtroom in the Old Courthouse with a private tour, and now the Best Hotel I have ever stayed in close to home! This was suggested to me by a local woman, and it is such a jewel I almost hate to share it.
Serendipity no longer serves breakfast, but who cares!! The staff just points the way to the best locales!! It was like a whirlwind trip around the world.
Thank you Mrs. and Mr. Walters for opening up your home to such a lovely, happy, and memorable experience for me. A place I believe any antique, art, history lover dreams of.
The place is dingy and smells like mold. I was shocked at the clutter and dust. The owners? Wow. Suzan is alley rat and her husband is the minion. My jewelry was stolen while I stayed there and when I asked the owner for help in finding my jewelry, she cussed me out, threatened me, and told me to leave her property. Scary people, disgusting B&B, thieves, and liars.
The Walters, proprietors of this establishment, have collected antiques for years. With the younger generation's waning interest in antiques, they have repurposed much of their collection from their antique store to grace themed apartments throughout the structure. Breakfast is not served, though the kitchen is stocked with sodas, coffee, etc. Our room was filled with gorgeous antiques including a four poster bed with a step stool to get in. Our apartment, number two had a train theme, and had a collection of books about trains that was huge. Information about the community the house and the like was there as well. There were specially marked books that the Walters invited you to take with you if interested, though the bulk are not for the taking. We found Mr. and Mrs. Walter to be friendly and informative. If you are a minimalist, or don't appreciate the window that old things open onto our history and future, you should stay in a nice motel, but this reasonably priced, perfectly located accommodation is a nice enhancement to your stay in Independence.
I rent a wet moldy basement from Doug with a gas leak after giving him the rest of what money we had left and using my brother as a slave (worked for cash no tax) he is saying we have to leave asap or he will call the cops. Anyone know how to file a legit claim against him as a landlord, he has stollen my brothers health and all of our money and now kicking us out to be homeless and I won't take it. Not even giving us 30 days to figure out what our next plan is going to be. Or even get a move in date for another place.
The other reviews DO NOT LIE. Suzan Walters, the owner, is cruel, inhuman, and hateful. DO NOT STAY HERE. You will get anything and everything of value STOLEN. Owner only cares about money and things, and couldn’t care less about people or their well-being…how terrible!! It is best to find somewhere else to stay to avoid this evil and the filthy conditions. Nasty, nasty, nasty bed bugs! It’s a no ma’am.

They don't serve food but all kinds of drinks. It's a very warm, welcoming, engaging, family-feeling spot in the community where kind, funny, open and warm people gather or hang out alone. It has a smaller pub-like or "Cheers" type atmosphere in Inde
While some of the trail names are pretty crazy, this is absolutely a fantastic park for MTB and hiking alike.
The trails are well taken care of and have many different types of features on them. Coupled with the fact that there are many, many miles
Very informative tour of the home of the Truman's!! The inside is the same as it was when Mrs Truman passed in 1982. No picture taking allowed in the home itself. I was surprised to see one reviewer must have snuck in picture taking of their visit. T
Beautiful park! Lots of shade. Waterfall in my pictures is a street view waterfall so watch for traffic. Huge pond for fishing and a small dock as well. Lots of ducks and geese. Walking/bike trails as well. Lots of greenery. Was pretty quiet for bein
