Traveling for spring break in a group of three women, we were looking for somewhere cheap and safe in Key West to stay for one evening. Upon looking at the pictures, our expectations were reasonably not high. However, on arrival, we were all pleasantly surprised at how clean both the property and rooms were. We had also booked a room with two queen beds and were pleasantly surprised to see that they had upgraded us to a room with three queen beds, including a kitchenette. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and even held onto our luggage before our room was ready so we could go explore. Excellent location as well if you’re up for a walk/short bike ride. Would recommend highly for any people who are looking for a cheap stay, or for folks who prefer spending their day out on the island and not at their motel.
This little motel/hostel is a hidden gem tucked away in Old Town. It’s not really low price (about $200 per night for 2 people), but that covers everything including parking which is first come first served. The room was very clean and there was a sweet bench by each door so we could sit in the evenings and watch the baby chicks. There’s a full kitchen and a gas grill that is shared by all and coffee maker, fridge, and microwave in our room. We loved that it was 3 blocks away from Higgs Beach and two blocks away from the free Duval Bus loop. There are lots of good places to eat very close by, too: a grocery deli, Cuban Restaurant, Italian Restaurant, ice cream truck, bar with great entertainment, and a liquor store. We stayed in private room #8 and were able to park our car by our door. I especially want to mention our front office man, Hader. I am handicapped and he went out of his way to help me get a parking spot close to our door. Most of the hotels we looked at piled additional fees on top of their advertised price ($35-$45 just for parking). So please consider the Seashell and tell Hader we love him!
Positive: Nice room with comfortable bed and good shower. I appreciate the coffee and refrigerator in-room. The WiFi worked great. Negative: Unfortunately parking is minimal, but I was able to park across the street. I would have preferred an ice machine, but I had water bottles to put in the public refrigerator to get ice.
Disappointing Customer Service Experience I had an extremely negative experience at this hotel due to the treatment by the receptionist, whose name is Wayne. After my stay, he refused to return my deposit, claiming that a sheet was dirty. I have traveled extensively and stayed in many hotels, and I know that deposits are generally withheld for significant damages, like breaking something, not for dirty sheets or towels, which is a normal part of occupying a room. Wyne’s behavior was unprofessional and lacking in empathy. Additionally, it seemed like he wanted to keep the deposit simply because it was in cash. He appeared more interested in justifying the withholding of my money than in providing good customer service. This was not only unfair but also left a bad impression of the entire hotel. I have a photo of Wayne, which confirms who was responsible for this poor experience. I suggest that the hotel reviews its policies and better trains its staff in customer service. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and I definitely will not be staying here again.
I had the privilege of being the only one in the female dorm during the two weekdays of May I was there! The place is clean and the workers are kind. I recommend bringing earplugs because the sounds of outside find their way inside. Best price in town, excellent location, free parking (if there is room left), free wifi, access to a communal kitchen, etc. The map at the entrance gave me 2$ off my entrance at the butterfly museum nearby!
Booked the room just as a place to sleep for the night after camping on Dry Tortugas. Was pleasantly surprised. Room was clean. Staff was friendly. Location close enough to everything I wanted/needed. I would stay here again.
One night stay, room just upgraded, large bed, shiplap ceiling, large bathroom just upgraded, shower more than large enough for two people with great water pressure, price was great for a holiday weekend. Many attractions in walking distance in Old Town, will return and stay next time in Key West
This location served our purpose. We were close to a nice beach and walked to Duval daily and other area attractions. If you don’t like to walk rent a bike or golf cart close by. Our room met our basic needs. It was clean, bed was comfortable no frills but did the trick. Cleaned everyday and they take great pride in keeping the motel in good shape. The outside space is nice with plenty of sitting areas. You can have access to their outside grill. It was the most reasonably priced motel for the location. It’s not a new space for sure so if you are looking for that this isn’t for you. Staff was great. We’d stay again.
