Quaint lodging and cabins in great location, very pretty setting. We reserved two rooms for two nights for our family party of five adults. Check out is 11 am, check in was 3 pm and we arrived at 5 pm but housekeeper was still working on our rooms.
We stayed out of her way. After she left, we realized we had only towels for two people. We had to get another set. Later we found trash and some balled up dirty socks in the refrigerator furniture piece. There is a sign in the bathroom indicating housekeeping services the rooms, but we were told at check in there would be no housekeeping service. It’s hard to reuse towels that don’t dry completely.
The rooms look OK at first glance. The hallway and stairs are dirty and the light fixture is missing. There were bits of carpentry leftovers in plain sight between the buildings that could’ve been more neatly concealed.
We went to dinner. When we returned, one of the rooms had no electricity. When we called in, the manager accused us of causing the outage by plugging in two phone chargers. Over about 45 minutes he came and went, attempting to solve the issue. The wiring is odd inside and out, like it was done by a gig worker and not an electrician.
Finally he gave up and “upgraded” one of our parties to a different room. We were fine with that. But then the next day they hurried us back into the former room because the electrical issue was resolved. This seemed mean to ask customers to move rooms back and forth.
There are a lot of hotels in the area in a similar price range, so if we come back, we will not stay here again.
Their SMALL room was REALLY small! Bed took up half the room. It's only good for 1 person that just needs a place to shower and sleep. Hopefully they will get lucky and not get loud neighbors.
Other than that, great location and great service.
We must've gotten an updated room, it is very clean, large for the 2 of us; only problem is it is upstairs and we are older with knee issues. I asked for a room downstairs and the host had a slight attitude with a direct "No, busy time." 2 other guests checked in with me at the same time. No hello or welcome. Customer service is always appreciated by me and this made a big impression.
We like that this location is within walking distance, if you're up to it, to the aquarium, Cannery Row, shops and several restaurants and beaches.
The walls are a bit thin and we can hear our neighbors.
We would definitely return to this quaint motel.
Well maintained facility. Clean, safe and pet friendly. The rooms (referred to as ‘cottages” on the hotel website) vary in size and are equipped accordingly. Our cottage came with a kitchenette equipped with a fridge, a microwave and a coffee machine but no stove. Excellent service - we dealt with both the front desk and housekeeping staff and they were professional and helpful. The location is perfect - a quiet neighborhood within walking distance to the beach and parks. The only drawback is that there are no shops and/or many restaurant options within walking distance.
The room was very basic. It wasn’t ideal, but the location was wonderful & Theo, at the front desk, was amazing! As for as customer service goes, he was the best! Very considerate and took care of our group. The room was okay, but did the job.
Positive: Location Negative: While clean, the amenities were less than satisfactory. The pillows poor quality and the beds not comfortable at all. Room did not look like the photos. Also 5he outside fire pit was not lit, group sat around it with a small lit candle?????.
Everything about this hotel is perfect. We stayed in a condo and it was quiet, lots of room, and it was perfect for what we needed. The location is hard to beat, you’re a block away from the beach, and an amazing golf course and close to downtown Monterey. I highly recommend recommend this hotel, and I’ll be staying here again in the future. And it was a good, safe, neighborhood.
It was as I expected. Medium sized, simple, a little older and rougher, but recently updated. We had a deluxe with the kitchenette(from what I understand from other reviews,
the deluxe rooms are better maintained than the rest).
My main complaints were:
The beds. They were too firm for my comfort. The pillows were sad, small, and not well stuffed.
The room itself was stuffy and humid, though we did have a ceiling fan and windows that opened with screens and locks. So that helped.
The ants. First they were in the bathroom then they were coming out of the thermostat to the food on the counter. These buildings are old and likely lots of little cracks the little buggers can sneak in though. Bring bug spray(safe to use around kids and pets because it is a small area and you will be sleeping near by)
The dining table was a glass top(hated it) and the chairs were very uncomfortable.
Oh, and the fireplace. It's electric. I understand why but it was still a bummer for me. I was hoping it was real.
If you get a deluxe kitchenette, it does give you incredibly basic and cheap cookware/flatware/dinnerware. The only knives we had in ours was a bread knife and a steak knife. The only pan was too small for anything decent. If you plan to cook, I suggest bringing some tools from home. If you want to save money by cooking while you're there, I also suggest bringing some basic groceries with you. The shops in town are over priced.
On the websitr, one of the amenities listed is a vending machine. It was empty for the five days we were there aside from the display cans which were old and sun-bleached.
The area was a little out of the way, but nice and quiet. The beach/shore is about a ten minute walk away. The cemetery is right around the corner. The Butterfly Grove is also within walking distance. The only close place to grab a bite is Lucy's in Lighthouse(opens around 11am and serves mostly hotdogs and ice cream.)
Overall, it was a decent stay for cheaper than most places without being terrible. I'd book here again but only the deluxe.

The rooms were smaller than expected. But if you're intending to be out the whole day
This restaurant was a rather choice in urgency. We arrived quite late in Monterey thus started late on food hunting. We didn't want to drive far so we chose the one with the most guests. We got decent food in big portions at fair prices. If you are n
Great little B&B that is centrally located in Pacific Grove. Walking distance to cannery row, the aquarium and the monarch butterfly sanctuary.
The rooms were clean and everything worked well (for such an old house). We had no problems. There is a ni
A wonderful place to sit and reflect. The crashing waves are always intriguing. There is a path between several benches in the area. A great place to enjoy while on a coastal walk or bike ride.
First time experiencing Maxâs grill and the food was out of this world! Definitely going to be a repeat customer whenever we pass through Pacific Grove/Monterey. Absolutely amazing customer service, beautiful and cozy atmosphere. 10/10 would recomm
Staff was friendly. Room had plenty of space and was remarkably quiet. Enjoyed the gas fireplace. Best part was walking to the beach. Pacific Growth is a cute town and close to everything you would want to see or do in the area. We would stay again.
