This place is awesome. There's a ton of hiking trails, but the real star of the show is a 3.5 mile one way drive way that takes you through so many beautiful sites. I saw so many cool birds, trees, and plants. There are plenty of places to pull over and take photos or simply enjoy the view. There are informative boards along the way to help understand some history. I highly recommend for all ages and interest levels.
Oh my goodness, let me see if I can sum this experience up in a few words. When I tell you the scenery was absolutely beautiful. The drive was Pleasant 4miles, the people that we came in contact with. Were nice, we enjoyed every single moment. Pretty much we were adult children, Excited and Joyful!
God is amazing! Beautiful
If you look closely, you can see a small alligator. Which I was so excited to see.
Love coming here as it is a great place to get a glimpse of wildlife. They do a great job of keeping up the drive and I love that they also have some great hiking trails. Been going here for 20 plus years, definitely a great place to take your kids.
This is a nice quiet little park that's a little out of the way but a great place to get outdoors for a little bit. The day I went it was about to rain but it was really nice out. The park has a number of small trails that wind around various areas, with the longest one taking you parallel to a road. I'm assuming recent flooding due to rains had washed through the space between the tail and the roadway since it was littered in an enormous amount of trash and plastic. The paths are clearly marked, and there are little signs along the way that educate you to various plant and animal life in the area. The swamp section was definitely the coolest because of was able to watch snakes, frogs, lizards, and other wildlife doing their thing safely from a raised deck. It's a great place to take kids since the trails aren't very long or taxing to walk. I found a huge snapping turtle shell that had been there quite a while since it was bleached, almost completely white. Definitely stop in and check the place out if you're in the area.
I've got about 40 photos but it will only allow me to post photos from Google photos, which I don't use, so I'm left with just these 10 unedited one's until I can get that nonsense corrected.
This is an awesome drive to see wildlife. I enjoy the opportunity of being able to see and listen to nature. As you can see it's diffidently an photograph opportunity. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars and camera ... This is perfect for family outing. The roads are dusty so drive a vehicle that you don’t need to stay clean 😂
Favorite Free past time in Savannah!
4 mile drive filled with birds 🦅 , Spanish moss 🌳, dragon flies, & gators 🐊. The Refuge was closed for a couple years to update the dam. At most I’ve seen alligators counting up into the 40’s on average I get about 10-13 spots per visit. Bring some binoculars, roll the windows down and enjoy the drive. Spring time is best time to see optimal 🐊 during mating season. You can spend on average 1-2 hours here easily. Don’t forget to donate at the end. And remember don’t feed the wildlife!!!
This is a gem so close to Savannah’s port. Bobcat tracks and bazillions of birds. Savannah Wildlife Refuge is a hidden treasure and a fantastic place to move your body.
What a wonderful resource on the outskirts of Savannah. Hiking and driving options available, tons of wildlife and scenery to be admired. Definitely a must visit if you are in the area.
