We visited Savage River Lodge for a film shoot and had the most wonderful time. The scenery & accommodations were amazing and the staff were all top-notch 5-stars. While on set we spoke with the owner, the kindest man and very supportive of us being there. What a beautiful location, we can’t wait to highlight it in the film! Look for ‘Wychwood Cycle’ on YouTube coming June 2024! 🎥

We enjoyed a fantastic weekend at the lodge. Cabins are comfortable and check in is easy. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Road in is a bit tricky but fine in our Subaru. Breakfast delivery of muffins and juice was a yummy way to start the day. Quite a few nicely maintained trails to hike. We were there for Wine in the Woods which we absolutely loved. Happy hour by the bonfire and a very good dinner at the restaurant finished out our day. Overall this is a great spot for those of us who love the great outdoors but also a comfortable place to sleep and a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. Cabins show their age a bit, particularly the bathroom but everything was clean and worked well. We would love to visit again!

Great place to visit for a mountain getaway. The cabins and yurts are very comfortable and cozy. The bar at the lodge is well stocked and drinks are perfectly prepared. The food is delicious. Bring rugged shoes and take one of the well marked trails. Relax and enjoy. This is a great place to unwind. Highly recommend.

Have stayed there twice, both times in cabins. The food, delivered hot and perfectly presented to your door makes our mouths water just reminiscing about it. Beds are comfy; even the pull out sofa bed. Love the porches. Don't bother paying extra for a cabin with "extra privacy"; ours was at the end of a road facing back down the road, whereas the first cabin I stayed in with my bestie, the view from the porch was awesome and it was soo much more private.

What a special place! We had our first weekend at Savage River Lodge, and stayed in a cabin that faced the woods. It was the most serene location, simple and spare but beautiful. We had dinner at the restaurant both nights and enjoyed the food immensely. We especially liked Thaddeus the bartender. Can’t wait to go back!

If you've ever "selfishly" wished for a peaceful, stress-free Christmas then leave that guilt behind and enjoy your holiday at Savage River Lodge. We experienced our usual fine dining with an engaging and knowledgeable wait staff. The rustic, Eco friendly environment never disappoints. And dare we say no ill-behaved children in sight; but instead, a few friendly, well-behaved dogs. We've been to SRL 9 times and always leave relaxed and refreshed. Sometimes, Jan and Mike even deliver your morning basket themselves. Brian, Joanne & Roxy Hollern

I booked a king cabin at the last minute before the holiday rush.|I read prior reviews and was prepared for the pothole mountain road in my AWD SUV. The lodge is in the middle of a state park. It is quiet and not spoiled by city light pollution. I was pleased to receive texts and phone calls prior to my arrival to iron out some details. Every interaction was polite, professional and friendly. I arrived at dusk on a cold rainy day to find a warm, clean and well…rustic cabin. I ordered snacks and a cheese tray prior to arrival. I brought water with me. The cabin was well equipped with small but meaningful touches. We found a coffee pot, kettle, wine tool and glasses and cups. Towels and bath robes were in the bathroom. I don’t normally take note of the bath amenities but I loves the bath soaps provided. The water pressure was great in the well sized tub/shower. We travel with our two kennel trained Maltese dogs. SRL provides dog bowls and towels for muddy paws. There are plenty of hooks for coats and leashes. The bed was comfortable and cozy. The loft area gets hot but a previous reviewer advised opening a window above the bed to let some heat escape. We went to happy hour and wet the only ppl there. The staff was friendly and made us feel comfortable. We had dinner at the lodge too. The filet was huge and enough for two people. My husband said the pasta with elk and d venison was good. Pricing was appropriate considering the remote location. We are used to DC pricing and found it reasonable. The wine pour was more than generous. The beer selection was good too. A Stanley filled with OJ, muffins and gourmet dog biscuits arrive on the porch around 8ish. I look forward to returning to take advantage of the hiking. Kudos to the staff and owners for providing a great first impression.

We really enjoyed our yurt accommodations and the property. It was comfortable and wonderful to unplug. The staff were kind and helpful. They arranged an appointment for me to have a massage in my yurt, which was very relaxing. We took a hike on Saturday and seemed to have the entire property to ourselves. It was a treat to not have to leave our yurt to have breakfast. ||Our only issue was our meal on the second night. I think the staff at the restaurant probably needs some training and the food we ordered didn't seem to measure up to what was printed on the menu. ||First we ordered a $65 bottle of chardonnay (Frog's Leap) and it was served to us without being chilled. Our waitress was too young to serve alcohol, so a bartender came out to open and pour. We didn't realized it wasn't chilled until after it was poured. We felt bad about sending a bottle that expensive back once it had been opened, but honestly we should have. For $65 it should have been served properly and if your restaurant is going to serve that caliber of wine (and charge accordingly) your staff should know how to serve it. ||Next, my husband ordered the Catalpa salad and when it was served to him he was told the kitchen was out of goat cheese. Instead of substituting something comparable (feta?) or even better, letting us know ahead of time rather than at the time it was served, he might have preferred to order something else. I ordered the same salad on Friday night. Here is the description:||Artisan greens with roasted apricots, marcona almond crumble, balsamic caramelized onions, goat cheese, and Champagne vinaigrette||The apricots were not "roasted", they were diced dried apricots and there was no marcona almond crumble, it was just slivered almonds. I don't recall anything resembling balsamic caramelized onions. ||We both ordered the scallops on Saturday evening. The menu describes the dish as: BLT Scallops - Seared scallops with candied bacon crumble, white bean and arugula cassoulet, and lemon beurre blanc||There was no bacon in the dish, certainly no candied bacon crumble. And the white bean and arugula cassoulet, was simply white beans cooked with some arugula. It was not "cassoulet". My scallops were nicely seared, my husbands had barely any color on them. Very uneven. ||Perhaps it was a rough evening, perhaps they were short staffed or had new kitchen staff, but overall we were very disappointed in that meal. The caliber of the menu certainly gives you the impression of an upscale restaurant and that's what we expected and paid for. The product does not match the expectation. ||We would like to come back to SRL. It was a much needed relaxing weekend, especially at this time of year. I hope that by the next time some of the kinks in the restaurant will be worked out. |
