Saru Handroll provided a delightful dining experience with an array of handroll sushi options, including Fatty Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp Tempura, and Cucumber & Plum. The miso soup, edamame, and hot buckwheat tea complemented the meal perfectly in a stylish, modern setting. Noteworthy were the pre-meal wet tissue towels, a thoughtful touch for cleaning our hands after savoring the handroll sushi. However, it’s important to note that the set menu did not allow for substitutions. Minus one star off - as the sets have crab and shrimp; no sub-options available for people with seafood allergies. Despite this, Saru Handroll proved to be a charming spot suitable for various occasions, whether it’s a date night, girls’ night, or gathering with friends and family. I recommend it for both the flavors and the ambiance.

Went on a Tuesday at open (5:30pm) and we had a nice quick quiet dinner. The yellowtail was notable but everything was delicious. Pre-meal we were given hot hand towels and payment was quick and easy.

reminiscent of the popular kazunori, saru handroll bar is a great sushi spot in russian hill specializing in hand rolls. wait wasn’t too long on a friday evening but don’t come in with big groups since the place is just a single long bar. the rolls were good overall, highlighting the fresh nori and seasoned rice, but some of the toppings were disappointing. overall, this place is one of the better sushi spots if you don’t want to spend too much money and a cute date spot with great ambiance and service. set of 4: good to try the different rolls and recommend for first time. more than filling for me. would do a la carte next. - fatty tuna: least fav. tuna wasn’t fatty and small portions. - salmon: good roll but kinda forgettable. better than tuna. - shrimp tempura: best roll of the night. shrimp portion was on the smaller side but loved the flavor and texture of the batter. - cucumber and plum: good to finish off the meal as palate cleanser. refreshing and sharp - spicy scallop: nice scallop portions and tasty.

Super hipster sushi joint! Beautiful industrial dark setting with some super good hand rolls. The seaweed crunch on the hand rolls is also phenomenal. Super fresh and creative. The music playlist is enough reason to come! Highly recommend!

This place is 3.5 at best. Fish quality was fresh but tiny portions in each hand roll. Service was decent but the sushi chef didn’t even say what hand roll they were serving each time. Just had to guess for myself after taking a bite. I tried 5 different hand rolls and the only one that stuck out was the eel one which was perfectly cooked and just the right amount of sauce. Overall, I would not recommend this spot for any groups over 2-3 people since they only have bar seating and makes it difficult to interact with larger groups.

Very relaxing/zen atmosphere! Hand rolls were delicious, crispy seaweed and very tasty and creamy inside. My favorite was the shrimp tempura with avocado, the dressing and texture was foodgastic! The Yuzu mocktail was delicious! Great experience!

The size of the rolls are comically small - about the diameter of a quarter. Talk about bite-sized! To add insult to injury, they were NOT flavorful and the seaweed salad had a generic spice - possibly red pepper flakes - which is very out of character. Maybe a better experience in person, but if you're doing delivery, better heat up that frozen pizza...

A reminder to everyone who wants to try Saru Handroll Bar: Walk-ins only. I love a restaurant that doesn’t take reservations since the service is very quick. They opened at 5pm and was seated 1 minute after I arrived. 😀 Everything I tried was fresh! The 4 hand rolls off the set menu were delicious. You must order a miso soup since it’s one of the best I’ve ever tasted. Thank you for a great date night, Saru Handroll Bar.
