This is such a beautiful trail with trees and shade. There is a little rough spot in the beginning, so I definitely would not suggest anyone who had a hard time balancing to be coming on the trail. Besides that it's an absolutely gorgeous walk. I've seen lots of bikers try to do it, and I guess you can do it, but there's a lot of rocks to contend with, especially in the beginning.
Great trial system to bring your horse to. Make sure you park in the larger parking lot off DeLuz Rd. In the staging area there is a few corrals, water access, Picnic benches and pot-a-potty. You will cross multiple water crossings, so make sure your horse is good with water. You can cross road at the horse crossing light and go into the Sandi Creek area. There are some fantastic views if you take some of the trials that go higher up the hills. But those trials are very narrow. You can probably spend a good 3 hours just riding part of the area from the staging lot to the Sandi Creek hillsides. It is also a good idea if you have never gone before to go with someone that has and also bring the map. And anytime after rains be careful , there are areas that will be closed.
Very nice trail with segways that allow you to cross the river (make sure to go on a cooler day- it does get quite toasty and only parts are shaded). The kiddos love watching when horse riders go by (yes, this means watch out for horse poop). The parking lot is a medium sized dirt lot and there is a portapotty at the trail entrance.
Loved the hike near a river and seen people taking a dip in the river to cool off and the end leaving a rock tower was fun. And plenty of wild life to see from fish to birds to horse on the trail
Wonderful series of trails connected by crossings of the Santa Margarita River, which flows due to mountain runoff from the nearby peninsular ranges. Crossing the river is not done by bridge, it is done by either wading/swimming across the river or by hopping across stones in the water. The trails are well marked and largely flat since they follow the river bed. Bugs in summertime can be an issue, but not too bad. Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and water, as it gets hot particularly in the summer months in this location. Plenty of parking there, which is free. Overall, this is a wonderful way to connect with nature.
Beautiful trail. there is lots of shade and a few benches to sit down and take in the beautiful nature around you ! this trail can get packed so make sure you go early . i took my 2 small dogs and we had a blast hiking . the dogs loved going in and out of the river and swimming. This is one of my favorite hikes. it’s relatively easy . you can cross the river if you want so be ready to get your feet wet or take your shoes off to cross the lake.
Beautiful place to enjoy low impact hiking trails and flowing water. Leave no trace, pick up after your dog.
This trailhead is super cute. Loads of parking. Also there is a port-a-potty. I liked that the trails were clearly marked. In winter months it would be hard to cross the river which makes quite a few off the offshoot trails inaccessible. There are loads of trees though and that is very nice.😊
