Avery at the front was especially helpful and down right awesome- clean, professional, and full of smiles. Prob would of gave a 3 or 4 outta 5 if it wasn’t for Avery’s exceptional customer service and willingness to help. I came during lunch rush and there was a bit of a wait but I was thoroughly entertained by the unique atmosphere with endless decorations, plants, and antiques to admire. I love how their menu is huge in chalk on the wall. I ordered a bread bowl and while I was waiting the owner called out my name twice (the first time I looked around and couldn’t find who it was that was talking.) They explained the bread bowl was mistakenly rung up as a regular bowl and that I owe an additional $3.28. In retrospect I’m a little taken back. As an experienced manager and business owner I wouldn’t of disclosed the mistake to the customer. I would of just let it go or did what I needed to to account for it, i.e. add the bread to food waste, charge the $3.28 for inventory purposes and account for it with petty cash or other means. I discussed this with two other (successful) business owners over dinner and they were both slightly appalled. Such an odd interaction, never experienced that before, especially not from an owner with all the authority in the world to write off the extra cost. It was especially insulting considering just prior I had tipped 3 dollars plus change and had asked for singles specifically so I could do so. I came with $25 and left with $9, which means for a bread bowl and a can of coke, with a tip, I paid $16. Something else kinda gave me bad vibes- another customer who had held the door for me came in for pick up and the owner inquired about their order and then says, “Oh, you’re early. It’s going to be a while. We’re still making [it.]” From an outsiders perspective it seemed like a far less than the best way to talk to a customer, especially with an order as big as theirs. Once you become successful and business opportunity is plentiful, it can be easy to loose sight of the value of each customer and employee. It’s important to remember where you started and that everything can be gone in a flash at any moment. I’m not sure how the food was. I picked it up for a team member who called off work because they were sick. They said the soup was not good but considered it could have been because their taste buds were off. I was hoping they had chicken noodle but I respect that they make all of the soups in house and isn’t a cold season which might explain why they only had two options.
Sandwich was great! Soup was not very flavorful. They have new soups daily though so Im sure there are some in the rotation that I would like. They were short staffed but are looking for applicants to remedy that. The atmosphere is amazing. Cute lil spot that I'm sure will end up being on of the gems of Lawrence.
There truly are so many things to be impressed about with this restaurant. Every single staff member was so kind. Their bathroom sign was funny but also inclusive and made you realize you were in a safe place. The food was yummy and I love that I can get desserts with my meal that isn't just a cookie.
1st time visit. We were very impressed. The choices on the menu were great. Our group ordered; tuna salad on rye, Philly add garlic cream cheese, and tomato basil soup. The food was so flavorful. We will for sure be back to explore more of their wonderful offerings.
Food was amazing. Atmosphere was very nice. Someone has a green thumb as all the plants were happy and thriving.
Great food. 3 of us got different sandwiches and all was delicious. Soup of the day was jalepeno corn chowder and very tasty. Friendly staff. Will eat there again.
I was waited on by the owner, and she had many great meal suggestions. I tried the homemade chicken noodle soup and turned the BLT sandwich into a salad with balsamic vinegarette dressing. Both were fine. Inside seating was limited due to almost every table having dirty dishes left on them. I know the owner was grabbing bites to eat between the 4 customers that came in while I was there, but it seems bussing at least some of the tables should have been a priority over taking a break. After seeing all those dirty tables, I almost went elsewhere, but I was too tired to find another place to eat after a long day of work.
I love this place. I already wanted to cuss. Thomas and John love everything and the food. We know we don't act right. We will be be back when we paint around you guys! Sandwich Bowl!!!
Yello Sub is consistently great! Their sandwiches are SO good every single time and the service is always friendly. It really doesn't take long to get your food if you walk in and order, but if you order online, it will be ready when you arrive.
