Samson Island Nature Park is a nature preserve located in the Indian River Lagoon. Beautiful mangroves line the waterways, providing a stunning backdrop for kayaking in the Lagoon. This preserve is accessible by boat, canoe, or kayak. The park has miles of hiking trails to explore and observe Florida’s biodiversity. Primitive camping is available with permit, island has designated sites with very basic amenities; picnic tables, pedestal grills, and fire rings. Visitors can expect to see an abundance of bird life, few manatees, and other native wildlife. Yes, that includes bugs, bring your preferred bug repellent.
We launched our kayaks from Desoto park and it was a 45min kayak trip to the island. We went through the canals and saw tons of dolphins and pelicans very close. We were able to find a couple of suitable places to land our kayaks. After this we set up camp and stayed for a couple nights. The bugs are bad but there is plenty of firewood. You will need to bring your own water because there is no freshwater available on the island. The campsites were clean and the trails were maintained, but at the same time it was very peaceful and it’s a hidden gem.
We saw birds mostly, but also lizards and a couple squirrels.
Sampsons Island is like a private butterfly preserve this time of year; we went in late August. Painted ladies, zebra longings, Emperors - they were flitting about everywhere. The only way to get to the island is by boat, and we kayaked there on a Sunday morning, and it was deserted save for the aforementioned wildlife. The pavilions are in good shape but we never did find the bathrooms (although there are signs). Bring plenty of water and use a stick when you walk - spider webs are strewn liberally across the trails. Mostly well kept, though we did see what appeared to be a large amount of camping trash in one off-the-beaten path area.
Best nature park in Brevard. Kayak over, see nature, it is serene. Clean and lots of trails.
A great little retreat, good dock space and lots of information signs, and trails, be sure to bring insect spray. Check out the Manatee's
Accessible by boat only!! This should be clear and highlighted on the website.
Very cool park, but the mosquitos are terrible right now. Bring bug spray. We made it from the south dock to the restrooms before deciding to leave because of the mosquitos.
Nice boat trip over to the island. Beautiful homes line the shores. Once there you better bring bug juice....the natives are hangry. Bring drinks for the hike. We walked all over the island. Good view from the mountain. For a free trip provided by Sat Beach this is a winner. Only goes out on Sunday afternoon weather permitting. Get out and go. However, if you have kids this is NOT a playground. Unless they want to walk for a couple hours outside. Did I mention bug spray? Take that and the wife. 😊

We stayed at an Airbnb nearby for two nights and we loved this beach. It is so beautiful, even after dark. The waves weren't too crazy and the sand was just great to walk on. Hope to come back some day!
Local joint, great breakfast...crepe pic isn't fair because my kid smeared her whipped cream all over it before I could take the picture. Everyone raved online about the red velvet french toast, but we had already ordered before we saw it. Get in on
Another breakfast diner off the list, #54. Really good meal. Loved the hash, it was spot on. Omelet was packed. Service was outstanding! Cannot complain and will definitely be back.
First off the staff was very nice, and our waitress was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The shrimp were large and very flavorful. My husband got some ghost pepper wings, and I took a bite of the celery off the top of them, and I don't know even h
Ashley made me the best Spicy Margarita tonight.
