Rutt's Hut - Hot dog restaurant in Clifton - 417 River Rd, USA

Jersey institution and best deal around. Stopped in on a recent weeknight en route home from the city. I visited a while back but it had been at least 5 years. Exactly the same! One side is takeout - a 50s-style burger counter. The other side is an old-man bar where you can order all the food and sit down for a drink. The "ripper" deep fried hot dogs are absolutely incredible. A distinct crunch on the outside ripped open by hot oil to reveal the juicy center. I do think they could do a bit better on the bun but they are clearly working to keep prices low! For $13 I got 2 dogs and 3 draft beers. Where else can you get that!? Large parking lot - I have seen big rigs and there was a class A RV parked in the lot the last time I went. I was reminded why I absolutely love this place. Friendly folks, quick (nearly immediate) service of legendary food, cheap prices, easy access to Route 3. Perfect - never change!

Excellent dogs eh RIPPERS. chilli was great and the clam strips meal was killer. Don’t sleep on the relish. It’s a wild color but one of the best I’ve ever had. Need to make another trip the menu has some serious depth.

Probably one of the best hot dogs I've had in the country. This place has one numerous awards for best dogs (called rippers) and the secret is the mustard and relish!! This is cash only and has 2 distinct atmospheres....the to go counter and the restaurant...both of which feel are frozen in time from the 1950s. If you like hotdogs and you are in NJ....this is a definite place to hit up.

The ripper hot dog was excellent. Their home made relish and mustard was high quality. Loved that it was inexpensive. The cold bun was the only let down. We wished it was toasted or warmed up. It just let down the taste of the dog.

Classic old school hot dog joint, been here a bunch of times. Got a ripper with relish & ketchup today, didn't disappoint. Cash only $2.90. Good snap, great dog.

I was headed into NYC today and made a detour to try some hot dogs. This place reminded me of an old school "greasy spoon." The food did not disappoint! The "Home of the Ripper" has some of the best hot dogs I've found. I have traveled to many cities across the U.S. and have eaten many hot dogs. This place is easily in the top 5. I was encouraged to put relish on my "Ripper" because of their original recipe. I'm not a relish on a hot dog person but would do it again. I was impressed with the helpful and courteous staff. I even bought a T-shirt.

All I can say is wow... I ❤️ this place...let me begin the review...Well after enjoying some exotic bud...I had this insane urge to Devour some tasty 😋 🌭...and I found it.. The franks are super tasty. They explode with flavor as you bite on them...ohhh let's not forget the onions baby... they are a true 10..go now ..now...I will be back to taste all of there Delicious treats....1

Great dive bar with better than great food. The ripper of course you gotta try, but I’m going back again and again for the chilli, onion rings and the rice AND bread pudding. Delicious.
