We drove over an hour just to experience Ruby's Kitchen...and it was the best soul food I've ever had, in my life. The fried catfish was easily the best catfish I've ever tasted. Everything was made fresh and HOT! The fried shrimp was perfect. And the onion rings? Oh my god. Amazing. Mac and cheese and greens? Perfection. Cornbread? Otherworldly! I don't even like hushpuppies but even the hushpuppies were delicious! My 9 year old is a picky eater and she SMASHED the fried shrimp and hush puppies! Service was also perfect and I don't think I've *ever* had a better dining experience in my life. I mean that.
Craving soul food and with limited options in the city, I came across Ruby’s Kitchen with a quick Google search. With online ordering down, I had to call twice to get through and order my food. I was told by the worker it would be a 45 minute wait, despite me ordering literally just dressing and macaroni. I figured with how busy it was, I’d give it 50 minutes. I walked into the humid, sticky building and was met by the worker at the cash register who was really nice. I told her my name, and she told me that there will still be a wait 🙄. 15 minutes passed, and at this point I ordered over an hour ago. I finally got my food and headed home! The dressing was good, but extremely runny. Macaroni was obviously from a box and a little bit of pepper was added. It’s not bad price wise, but for the wait, I expected better. I would come back, but I hate how a majority of the menu is only available Sunday.
Food is made fresh to order but it is definitely worth the wait. We opted to dine in; multiple staff/owners made sure we had been taken care of given there's no dedicated waitstaff or bussing. Catfish was perfect. Meal for two (1 entree + 2 sides each) was around $25.
Food was nasty ! Never again will I eat here! Steaks were burnt . Corn was sweet as hell.. mash potatoes were out the box and well as the mac and cheese .. chicken was dark brown NO FRESH GREASE ! Dressing was disgusting! Turkey chops were hard . Catfish was burnt !! We order over 6 meals NO ONE WAS SATISFIED! The lady that took our order was rude ! Eating at the counter while packing our food just a mess ! This place is a joke ! Smells amazing but taste nasty
Catfish and wings were super good. Sides were not. Not seasoned at all and very greasy. Ordered corn bread and got a cheap roll. They forgot my gravy.
Two out of three people in our party didn't like the food. The pork chops were fantastic, as were the chicken wings. The problem was with the sides, which were pretty but overall lacked taste. Except for the spaghetti, which was delicious.
This place is very confusing. You don't know if you sit down to eat there or stand in line to order to go food... Then you wait 30+ minutes to be shoved a bag of food. Idk... they should rethink that approach. The food was good though.
We purchased 1 fish and shrimp dinner and 1 chicken wings dinner with our sides of fried corn, mustard and turnip greens. The fried corn is canned creamed styled corn that was so sweet we couldn't eat it, and the greens came out of a can. The menu should be true to the items. Please stop misleading people with thinking they're going to order fresh fried corn or change your menu. If you're serving canned veggies, then say so! We also ordered peach cobbler which was not in our bag. Not even worth going back to get it. That was our first and last time ordering food from Ruby's.
Great downtown restaurant. We had a smoked beef sandwich, hot chicken sandwich, turkey bacon gouda sandwich, butter fries, kale slaw, and turkey & dumplings soup. Everything was delicious and everyone was happy with their food. Best turkey sandwich e
The service was excellent. Our waitress checked on us several times and was very personable. After ordering food, it wasn't long after that it was served. The egg roll appetizer was delicious. It came with three different sauces. Surf and Turf entree
First time visitor and wondering why I waited so long! The owner is amazing and greets everyone by name! So many regular customers and now I know why Waitresses are attentive and friendly with over 4 decades of experience ! Pristine and eclectic dini
New Yearâs Eve was yesterday, and my first time eating here. Not only did they seats within 10 minutes for a group of 7 they were amazing! Food was great along with everything else! Thank you for having my family. The rotisserie chicken was amazing
Great experience my first, but not last, visit here. Had the Cajun grilled shrimp and was just blown away, highly recommend this dish. Looking forward to next visit to try one of the other menu items. Exceptional waitstaff and service.
