Ruben's Restaurant - American restaurant in Danville - 5000 Riverside Dr, USA

Loved this little breakfast & lunch spot while traveling for work. All the servers were very nice and the food was good. The atmosphere is very “old school” in a good way. Almost like a well preserved moment in time. Nice meal for your dollar and nothing was outrageously overpriced.

If you are looking for inexpensive good food, then this is the place. Nothing fancy, sandwiches are served wrapped in paper (no plates). Possibly the best onion rings that I've ever had. Sometimes they get really busy, and note that it's "seat yourself".

Finding good breakfast can be wearisome for the traveler. Ruben’s fits the bill. Great food (especially the sausage gravy) at an affordable price with easy access and a happy waitstaff. Definitely a must when in Danville, VA.

Ruben’s hands down still has some of the best food in Danville! Restaurant still has the same old charm it always has. My only issue is wait time for food and lack of service from waitresses. When Ruben was still alive and running the restaurant there was a level of care for the customers; that feels like is missing now. My wife chose Ruben’s for her birthday because she wanted a hot hamburger with gravy and fries 🤤. We arrived around 6:00pm and they were not overly packed but still busy. We sat ourselves; not once greeted by any staff. A young waitress came to our table and asked us what we wanted to drink. An older lady came right behind her and said she was taking this table. Not something I would think an employee should do in front of customers but whatever. The second waitress brought our drinks and took our order which was just 2 hot hamburgers with gravy and fries add 2 slices of tomato on the side for one of those. We sat there for over 25 minutes with no one coming to refill our drinks or letting us know the progress of our food. 35 minutes later the second waitress is coming to our table with plates in hand. She sits the food down along with silverware and walks away. The first younger waitress comes to the table and asks if our food is okay and if we needed refills. This was the last time we saw any waitress during our visit. Needles to say; we didn’t leave a tip; as a tip is a sign of gratitude for services received. I have been coming to Ruben’s almost my entire life and have never had this type of service here nor at Ruben’s Too. I don’t know if the second waitress was having a bad day or what was going on but it left me and my wife not wanting to come back. Don’t get me wrong! Food was great; like always, but the service was lacking thanks in part to the second older waitress that just had to take our table for some reason.

To be fair, I have not eaten here yet, but I did notice on the menu recently posted here by a customer, it has a "hamburger special" (hamburger, fries and large drink) priced @ $9.38. If you were to purchase these A la carte it comes to $9.19. So tell me what makes the hamburger special "Special"?🤔

Ruben's is a great place to have any meal. The food is always good, the service is great.

Ruben's is absolutely amazing. The cheeseburger and onion rings were the best that I have had in years. Sitting at the counter added a spark of nostalgia. I was welcomed when I walked in from the cook and was thanked for coming when I got ready to leave. Prices are excellent. Our waitress was a sweetheart. Once you eat here, you will definitely be back. I know that I will.
