Rodeway Inn Near JFK Airport - Featured Reviews (187)
I had booked two rooms for October 1 2023, in March 2023 as my family and I would be in New York for vacation and needed a hotel near JFK the night before we flew home. Everything was confirmed and I even received an email on Sept 25 stating that they were looking forward to my stay on Oct 1. When we arrived on Oct 1 we were informed that the Hotel was no longer a hotel and that it was a shelter. The manager then came out and told us he was cancelling our reservation and there was nothing he could do to help us. They said that the Hotel had been turned into a shelter months ago and my reservation must have been missed. The manager then refunded our reservation. We were then stranded with nowhere to go and while we were on our phones looking for a new hotel the security guard came up to us and said we were loitering and kicked us off the property. When I contacted Choice Hotels to complain they didn't seem to care that we were treated so badly and offered basically $80 worth of points. I will likely never stay at a Choice Hotel branded hotel ever again and will inform everyone I know to not stay either.
Whatever you do. Do not stay here. Blood in the elevator, hair all over the tub. The cable didn't work at first so I had to fix it. The windows aren't properly installed so you can feel the wind blowing through them. There wasn't any hot water either aswell as the internet kept going down so it took awhile to check me In because it kept crashing. Super sketchy outside the hotel. The picture they advertised for the room was absolutely not at all what their rooms looked like.
Overview: While only a very short trip from JFK airport (5 min. or so by cab), the room was under-underwhelming, especially for the price ($99 + tax = $117). Disregard website - there is NO SHUTTLE TO/FROM JFK airport.
Amenities: See photos for some details of note.
Entrances to reception and rooms were through an outdoor courtyard accessed by either a relatively narrow ramp or stairs. An elevator is available.
Bedding and towels appeared clean to the eye, at least. The bed was comfortable enough, though the blanket was very thin. There is no coffee machine or hair dryer in the room. There was a mini fridge.
There appeared to be mold around the tub edge, and hot water was unreliable.
A/C system controls did not seem to work, so a loud fan ran all night.
One highlight was the receptionists- both were very kind and helpful!
Do not stay here if you’re a woman alone. This neighborhood is really scary and the locks aren’t secure. I couldn’t sleep because of how terrified I was. Anyone could walk into the hotel because there’s no lobby. Next time, I would definitely pay the extra bucks for a safer option. There are stains on the bed sheets too.
Hotel shows signs of wear and tear. Room was small, bed took up most of the space. Security lock was missing on the door. There was a smell like old urine. Will not stay there again, very disappointed.
I stayed at this hotel as a result of a flight cancellation. The convience of the hotel is that it is only a few minutes from the airport. The room itself is small and mostly clean. The bathroom is simple. There is mold growing along the caulking. There are old pipes sticking out of the wall from previous renovations. There are no USB charging ports so bring a wall adapter. The real draw back is there is a loud beeping noise in the hallway. There is no lobby so random people can converse right outside your door. Overall the stay was tolerable for a traveler with a rescheduled flight.
A terrible experience. Scary to arrive at night. Upkeep and condition of building, patio and room abominable. Terrible furniture and sparkle spots all over the room. The only positive: courteous clerk. Towels and bed linen were clean. So we’re bathroom fixtures. Will not use Rhodeway again. Also billed for way more than advertised.
If you're looking for somewhere to get a quick nap during a layover this will work. Not my cup of tea though. The room is the size of a matchbox and in kind of a sketchy area. There is no real lobby and the worker want pleasant at all. Doesn't acknowledge or hear us. Not dogs he offer to show us our room.
