We had a great room. The shower was a little mad and would fluctuate temps but other than that, a great night sleep on a comfy bed in a clean room in the mountains! The price was just right. The pool is down, but they have it set up with Estes Park recreation center so that you can swim there for free! Way cool! I'll stay there again! Don't let the place fool you! Plus the family game lounge is a perfect touch. (Pool table, old school arcade and tons of board games!)
Photos online are EXTREMELY misleading. We thought this would be a clean, comfortable, updated hotel and it was quite the opposite. For starters, the name of the hotel on all the signage and branding is totally different. It smelled musty. The rooms felt tired and damp with visible signs of water damage. No decor on the walls or tables. Very dark rooms. The shower had mould in it. The bathroom vanity light had 5 different colored lightbulbs in it. The door to our room didn’t close properly unless you slammed it shut. The walls were paper thin. The AC barely worked. The pillows were all different, and extremely lumpy. We specifically chose this hotel because it appeared to have a nice pool and hot tub. The hot tub was out of order and the pool was murky and green. My 7 year old who has almost no concept of what’s clean vs dirty wouldn’t even go in it (which we didn’t want her to anyways). We brought this to the staffs attention and they insisted it was fine. Each time we walked through the lobby there was a different guest complaining about something to the front desk staff. There is a sort of game room? But half the machines don’t work and it again smelled dirty and musty. I didn’t want my child to touch anything. There were guests playing pool and blasting loud vulgar rap music and had a large dog there that frightened my child. We quickly left. In a great location but wouldn’t stay here ever again.
Overall, this was a nice hotel to stay at. The rustic, cabin-like feel gives it some charm. The patio views are to die for! The rooms were nothing special and the beds weren't great, but I would stay again. Unfortunately, the pool and hottub were closed during my visit, one of the main reasons I chose to stay there.
If I could put negative stars I would.
The pictures online do not accurately show this place at all. This is not a hotel it is a motel. The room was disgusting. One of the side tables by the bed was covered in a sticky mess. There were hairs in the bed. The mini fridge that I paid extra for didn’t work. There was a large hole in the bathroom ceiling. The door looked like it had been kicked open. The side door didn’t lock. The air conditioner was loud and barely worked. WiFi was spotty.
I called the front desk to express my concerns. He was extremely rude and dismissive. Robert H couldn’t have cared less. He told me I could come get sheets and remake the bed myself. He didn’t even acknowledge any of my other concerns.
I didn’t end up sleeping there. I got a room somewhere else.
DO NOT STAY HERE. For the amount you pay you can get a better room somewhere else…anywhere else would be better. I would have rather slept in my car.
They changed their name to Expedition lodge. they have many well appointed and redecorated rooms with modern furniture. Good firm beds, free breakfast when we visited. it's located across the street from the Estes Park lake and yacht club. if you have bikes, there's a bike trail that takes you around the Lake into town along Thompson Creek to all of the stores and restaurants. You can also rent a bike.
Like most other reviews-i am in agreement. The pictures on the website are very misleading- even the outside of the building doesn't look the same. The walls are definitely paper thin, you can hear and smell everything going on in the rooms next door. Our room had 2 connecting doors in it, that was pretty creepy. If you were taller than 5"8, your head was gonna touch the drop ceiling in the shower. The beds were set up across from each other, the weirdest layout I'd ever seen. Because of the setup, there was hardly any room to move around within the room. At check-in, we were told that the pool had just had an issue, and they had to close it. (This was the main reason that we booked it. No one else has an indoor pool)It was closed the whole time we were there, 2 days. We were on a 10 day road trip with 7 different stays, this was by far the worst stay and one of the most expensive.
I didn't book the room-i think that all these reviews would have scared me away. So do not stay here. It's not worth it, go down the road to one of the others.
We had a beautiful time. Thank you for the accommodations!
Liked · The staff was very friendly. The front desk called early and told us we could check in way before 4pm as our room was already cleaned. The room was very clean and met our needs. Perfect location!
I didn't dislike anything. They're under going construction so be patient and let them update the property. They're under new management and doing a phenomenal job turning the place around.
I needed a place to recuperate in between hiking trips to RMNP. I was not looking for anything fancy and this was the least expensive option. It has a cool game room which is a great place to wait while doing laundry. I also got to fill up my cooler with ice and clean out my camping gear. I was really tempted to spend another night and hang out in the lounge area but I came here for hiking so I’m gonna get back to the park.
I was pleasantly surprised that everything was clean. I scrubbed the floor in my room with a white towel and the towel stayed white! During the day everybody was cleaning, even the guy behind the front desk. Despite all this, the room did have an odor to it. I hope they find a way to fix this.

A great experience all around especially the service. A five rating doesn't seem high enough especially Bridgette at the front desk. Our room with fireplace was a special treat. Breakfast was good also.

Phenomenal view on a clear day. Quiet windy as should be expected, so protect your hats from flying away. Keep eyes open for mountain goats and elks. Last time we had a coyote jump in front of our car in pursuit of prey. The road up to this overlook
Another of the beautiful overlooks of the Trail ridge rd. This one looks at the valley that is between the trail ridge rd and the fall river road to which the fall river flows from the receding glaciers of the RMNP. Has a slightly larger parking lot
