Just popped in for a drink and a snack at the bar. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The drink and food menu is have seasonal offerings. The Euclidean Plane is a rift on the Paper Plane bourbon cocktail and was fantastic. Also enjoyed the Devil’s Advocate which had a nice smoky mezcal accent and other liqueurs. The vegetarian mezzo plate was delicious. Didn’t get the hand-stretched pizza made with organic heirloom flour but it looked amazing. Definitely will be back for more.
Beautiful restaurant, horrible parking options. The food was good and well seasoned but the deviled eggs just didn’t do it for me. Too many flavors and smells to digest at once. I wouldn’t mind going back for cocktails during the day.
Pretty disappointing experience. Nothing particularly bad, just would not recommend among the options in the area. Was really excited about the cocktail menu but my martini ended up extremely sour/bitter not balanced at all, tasted like lemon juice mixed with gin…. Needed sugar or something to help it. Awful. Food was over cooked. Fries were skinny as I like but way overdone and minced into tiny pieces you couldn’t really eat. With a fork OK, and the dip sauce was nice just only given half a portion with the fries. Saving money on mayonnaise? Duck wings were mostly bones with remnants of charred or fried to oblivion scraps of duck jerky clinging to them. “With pickles and arugula”— literally TWO quarter pickles…. Come On guys. Just not generous. Looking around at other tables seems like pizza might be the thing to order, but with so many awesome pizza places in the city, why bother going here? Fun ambiance with really high ceilings and nice decor but slow and confusing service and terrible/overpriced food. Sorry….
Met friends here before local show. The three of them actually loved their food. They had pizza and some appetizers. My wife's salad was good. I ordered the burgers and fries and was very disappointed. The fries were all less than an inch long and got cold almost instantly. The burger was too big to take a bite out of so it ended up being a mess. The wait staff needed one or two more waiters based on how many people were there and our server was painfully new to the job. So we had four people that loved their meal and one that was less than impressed. Read some other reviews and make up your own mind. I'll attach pictures of the menu for April of 2023
We came in on the early side so sat at the bar, which turned out to be a great choice, because the bartenders were so attentive, helpful, and full of fun knowledge. We kind of ordered everything, and it was all fantastic, cocktails, cheese board, appetizer, main, dessert, and dessert wine. There's even a parking garage right around the corner. Will definitely be back!
I came here to try the double smash burger. I love smash burgers and try them wherever I can. As a smash burger connoisseur, I can say that I was quite disappointed in this one. In my opinion the $24 price was not justified. The meat was overdone even though I ordered "medium rare", and was too dry as a result. (In my experience smash burgers don't usually come with a choice of doneness because the patties are so thin anyway.) The bun was too thick, dense, and also dry. The fries, however, were great. The "warm olives" I ordered as a starter were room temperature at best. They were ok, as far as olives go. I tried the 2017 Storybook Mountain Zinfandel, and it was lovely. It's possible the other food is better. I don't know. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is ok. It was relatively quiet and decently lit, though the decor is a bit incoherent.
Interesting venue, overpriced drinks, lackluster food, disappointing service. Venue: Eclectic (if somewhat incoherent) decor. Sort of "fin de siecle," I guess. Slightly overloud but nonetheless pleasant music. Tightly packed, so you'll get to enjoy your neighbors' conversations if you're into that kind of thing. Other reviewers complain about parking, but - hey - it was only 9 bucks at a nearby enclosed parking garage on a Friday evening. No problems there. Excellent location for folks attending nearby performances. Overpriced drinks: Speciality cocktails reflect a creative spirit but are unbalanced, somehow too sweet *and* too bitter. Also, stick with the limited menu of options and don't make my mistake of ordering a standard cocktail like an Old Fashioned. You'll pay a premium price for pedestrian booze and then an add-on charge for the additional components, resulting in a $21 drink that barely fills half the glass but somehow costs more than one of their speciality concoctions. * Oh, and wanna tiny bottle of Mexican coke? That'll be $8, my friend! Lackluster food: Pizza is a specialty, but the RBK Housemade Balsamic Sausage Pizza features a chintzy scattering of bland sausage chunks (like, really, I could not discern any taste at all), not even one sliver per slice, and forgettable sauce. Charred crust, in contrast, is fine. Cost per item, though, is extortionate, even for this part of town. Service suffers from insufficient staffing (a lament recognized by other reviewers): pleasant enough but unable to meet basic requirements. Long wait after delivery of (surprisingly warm) water. No quality-check after meals were delivered - which could be a concern for anyone ordering a $42 steak in this joint. And after our meal, the server forgot to order one of our requested deserts. Given our need to depart for a show, we were at least gratified to find that the item was never put on the bill. When evaluating price, service, and quality, the Revival doesn't live up to its name.
Incredible restaurant! Deliciously fresh, inventive dishes, quality ingredients, gorgeous ambiance, warm and attentive service. Cocktails very on point!! I’ve enjoyed several fantastic dinners from their seasonally changing menu, including my surprise birthday with 30+ friends, which they handled with ease. Dropped in this weekend for drinks and pizza after a show at Freight & Salvage. Best pizza in Berkeley (approved by the legit Italians we brought in with us). So glad this neighborhood gem has survived the pandemic, just is rocking it in a friendly, unpretentious way. Can’t wait to go back!
