I was in town for the Indy 500 and usually when I travel for a racing event all I need is a bed and a shower. I'm never in the room except to sleep and shower but for this trip I made a mistake that I will never make again. At first look it appears to be going through new ownership but I was still hopeful. The entire hotel smells of smoke despite several signs stating that it is a non smoking facility. They have weekly rates and whoever stays there on a more permanent basis are loud, and leave trash every where. I arrived to my room being open with the lock latch keeping the door open. I thought that was just an oversight from cleaning but quickly found out that the key card didn't work. The lock NEVER worked the entire time I was there and every morning before I headed out to the track or to sightsee, I had to pack all my stuff up and load it into my car, and unpack it every night when I got back. The only "fix" they suggested was to leave the latch in the door while I was gone, or go get them to manually open my door each time I wanted to leave my room. I should have left then but again, shower and bed. Everything in the room was absolutely disgusting. I bring wipes and lysol with me all the time and I'm glad I didn't forget it this time. No bugs....at least not live ones. There were dead bugs all over the floors, mainly up against the walls and corners. I never use all the socks I bring with me but on this ocassion I used most of them because I didn't dare go barefoot. The counters were filthy and the bed had cigarette burns in the sheets. I took a shower one time and had only 5 minutes of hot water. The window was somehow locked however, the window wasn't on the track completely. Super safe. This place was horrible but not in a bad part of town. The only reason I gave any part of this trip 2 stars is because the staff was nice about everything. They were apologetic about the locks but I wasn't offered another room or any remedy for my 3 day stay. I didn't like having to pack and unpack every single time I wanted to leave my room, and that was the only option I had for myself in order to protect my belongings. Lesson learned: you get what you pay for.
This is for my overall experience. I stayed for a week because my son graduated from the nearby high school. When I was looking for a place to stay, I wasn't looking for extravagant, just a cheap place to sleep. At $60 a night, what a deal. When I got there, outside the place is decent and not a bad eye sore. Nearby are the Waffle House (not a bad place, not fine dining either), McDonald's, Taco Bell, Starbuck's, Culver's (a decent burger joint) and The Original Chicago's Pizza and Curry (Loved the pizza and the service); so not a bad joint to sleep with so many food choices a block away at most. I was able to check in a little early. The staff was very kind and always looking to help in any matter presented. Walking to my room, I could smell what hoteliers dread, cigarette smoke stained into the walls. Granted, throughout my time there, I could tell they were trying to get it out with different types of cleaners and such but not too strong because there were kids and doggo's around (which I am totally cool with). I got to my room and it smelt like someone had just put out a cigarette in there. I opened the window and the door trying to get the smell out (I hadn't gone to the front desk to complain or anything). I was there for nights only pretty much so I figured I'd be ok. Didn't say a word about it and just kept to myself and my business. 2 days in and I would go out smelling like that just put out cigarette. The smell had attached itself to my clothes. I went to the front desk and told the lady and she was very apologetic and immediately told me to check another room if it was ok to move to and it was, so I did. No stressful interaction or bad feelings. She was accommodating immediately by remedying the situation. I wish I would have said something earlier. So if you go there and get the same room I had, just politely ask for another room with less of the last occupants smell in it. They don't have cable Tv but do have the digital antenna's in each room (there are about 6 to 10 channels per room, 1 was CBS so I got to watch the news and morning shows). This is where I come to my conclusion on accommodations, the place isn't bad (the room is spacious and they have free wifi...although my cell phone didn't always catch in the room so it does have dead spots but not completely dead spots), the staff is very polite and attentive, surrounding area is nice for food, gas and lottery tickets (they don't have the lottery in Hawaii), it's right off the highway, and it is a pet friendly place (which I like and appreciate). The town of Franklin is a nice mix of old and new with nice residents that keep a nice space around them. If you like old American architecture, this town is awesome. Some of the houses downtown are brick houses that date back 180 years and look like they were just built. Very well kept. I would suggest having a rental car if you come unless you like wasting money Ubering everywhere (each Uber driver I had was very nice and conversational. Shout out to Justin and Robert!!). The only bad thing that I saw was the initial smell, which they are trying to get rid of and you can't police everyone even if you're there 24/7. They're doing their best and I appreciated it. When life gives you a box of lemons...you know the rest. I hope this helps and I hope it helps Relax Inn the most. I appreciate you folks and would gladly stay again...please just fix the pool. Oh yeah, they have a pool (indoor) also. Unfortunately I didn't get to swim because it was not open when I was there...so please fix that. Thank you.
We made reservations for the weekend of the eclipse 8 months in advance. When we got there, we found out they lost the reservation (apparently due to changing computer systems), had already booked all their rooms, and made no attempts to help us find other accomodations. We were not the only guests affected by this, as the person in front of us had the same problem.
Apparently, "the computer system changed and the reservation was lost." A reservation that was made 8 months in advanced Perhaps this is Expedia's fault for not passing on the information. No worries, they are getting 1 star too.
I work in the hotel industry. So, I'm very picky when it comes to hotels and customer service! Let me tell you this hotel gets 5 stars in every category, from me. Heather the front desk person, is super nice and understanding and just goes above her job. The hotel, and the rooms are super clean, smell good, and bug free! The price is very reasonable, especially for how good care the hotel is in! Location cannot be better!
It was a nice place to stay for a decent price, and the beds were comfortable n such.
There were birds living in the exhaust fan in the bathroom and I kept finding feathers in the tub and on my towels.
I would like everyone (honestly in the world) to know that this motel is taking advantage of non-profits and stealing money. Their property manager, Heather, stole thousands of dollars by taking our credit card information. I hope she feels great about taking money from families in need!
