This is not your typical botanical garden, it is large with lots of trails that connect in different ways. One can expect to spend 2 hrs walking around and if reading about the different plants is of interest then increase the time to 3+ hrs. It is amazing to see all these California native plants. There is a small parking lot next to the entrance and the visitor center has free maps on the outside counter. Google Map provides accurate directions if you type in "Botanical Garden Tilden Regional Park." Trails have shaded areas as well as sun.
Very beautiful! Some paths are rather narrow and steep and may not be easily accessible with wheelchairs or strollers however, so you should be careful when passing through.
There are a large variety of plants with plenty of placards posted to identify the plants. The people working/volunteering there were extremely knowledgeable and friendly.
I love this beautyyyyfuuuul space. I have a picnic here and walk the redwoods and along the meadow. It is safe enough for my little ones to walk around and serene enough for them to just have fun and not bother mommy and daddy. Dont bring a stoller, it will be of no use! I love that it is free and has the origin of where all the plants are from. They even have endangered plants. Its a treat for me and my family. Highly recommended for a relaxing walk.
I was a volunter driver for my kid's school trip to this place. Living so close to it but never visited , made me surprised. This garden was created to include entire California and major plants found throughout. Very nice spot and children would love it....
Extensive California native garden. Free parking and free entrance. An amazing collection of plants from different regions of California. Lovely winding paths for walking as well.
So lovely and peaceful. The air smells fresh. Some of the trails are narrow so keep that in mind.
Absolutely worth the crazy drive to get here. It’s an oasis full of California native plants near the bay. Highly recommend you stop by and take a look! Can you do native plant sales on Saturdays but I wasn’t able to partake because I showed up on a Sunday. Definitely recommend calling ahead of time. There is no cell reception and parking can be difficult if you show up later in the day.
Whether you’re a local who had a hard week or a visitor wanting a quiet moment amidst a busy schedule, the botanic garden in Tilden is one of the more serene and beautiful places in Berkeley. Great place for a date or to just read a book in nature. It’s free!
