Red Roof PLUS+ & Suites Guilford - Featured Reviews (174)
Positive: Conveniently located. Negative: Terrible experience. Poor facility maintenance inside and out. Billing errors that took nearly an hour to fix. Difficult to communicate with staff. Worst $200 a night hotel I've experienced in my years of travel. Verizon cell service. Never again.
After an incredible trip in New York and Connecticut, we spent our last evening in America at the Red Roof Inn Guilford Connecticut.||The overall experience was terrible. There were hairs in our beds, reception never answered the phone despite calling several times, but worst of all was the bathroom which was literally covered in mould and smelt horrific. Putting on the extractor fan was not an option because it was so excessively loud that we couldn't hear each other speak over the noise. ||Despite a notice in their information book saying:"Not wowed by your stay? We'll make it right" I contacted customer service with my complaint - to which they replied - Thanks we'll look in to it - and we hope to see you again. ||If you don't plan on doing anything with a clients feedback, why even bother with the notice.||Needless to say, we got hardly any sleep and paid the equivalent of R5000 (ZAR) for an awful nights stay before a very long trip back to South Africa. What a terrible experience to end off our otherwise fantastic holiday.
NEVER AGAIN.
First off, I did a lot of research trying to find the right hotel. I don’t know where these other decent reviews came from.
1- the room smelled like a dirty wet ash try mixed with a petting zoo. No exaggeration. We tried to air it out but it didn’t matter.
2- room itself felt so dirty. My husband and I just walked around for 20 minutes trying to figure out what we were going to do. We didn’t want to touch anything.
3- the latch that you secure your door with was missing 3 out of 4 screws. Thankfully my husband had a tool box and just fixed it himself.
4- shady characters walking around
I know what you’re thinking. That I should have requested another room. But upon arrival the police were there dealing with an issue and we wanted no part of that. We also needed to get to a wedding. Upon return we just decided to try to sleep even though it killed us to get in the bed and just get the hell out of there in the morning.
The smell NEVER went away.
Red Roof Plus in Guilford is a modest but serviceable lodging. I would place it in the upper half of motels along old U.S. Route 1 in Connecticut. Our room was very spacious, comparable to a studio apartment. The sleeping area is an extension of a large living room/dining room area with two couches, a small table for dining, and a generous work space with free internet. Although our room fronted directly on Route 1, we heard no road noise.
The individual heating/air conditioning unit was the noisy type often found in motels. Fortunately, the weather allowed us to turn it off, assuring a peaceful sleep. The good-sized kitchen is equipped with stove top, refrigerator, coffee maker with coffee and sugar packets, and microwave oven. Plastic and paper cups are provided, but not plates and utensils, detracting from the convenience. There is no breakfast, and this is a BYOTB (bring your own tea bag) operation. Front desk staff was friendly. Bottom line: no one would confuse this with a destination resort, but if you need a place to spend a night or two in the Guilford area, want a kitchen and have brought your own picnic kit (including tea bags), Red Roof Plus does the job.
Would give this hotel 0 stars if possible that is how disgusting it was. My family and I booked two hotel rooms here as we were in guilford for an event and needed a place to stay. The first room absolutely reeked of smoke and the smell was unbearable. It gets worse! Room two was full of living and dead flies and was very dirty. We checked in around 3 pm and immediately rushed around Connecticut trying to find a new hotel to accommodate us because of the terrible conditions. After finding a new place to stay my husband returned to the hotel to retrieve our belongs and let the hotel know we would NOT be staying because of how disgusting it was. He retrieved the belongings from the first room and was greeted by people smoking weed right outside the door. Our rooms door ended up being broken and he couldn’t get our stuff out of it for an hour. Management was rude and useless and tried to blame him for the fact that their door was broken. The saftey lock was on the door yet no one was inside?? After finally getting our stuff he left. Management refuses to refund us for rooms we did not use. DO NOT BOOK HERE (unless you don’t mind dirt, grime, bugs& awful customer service)
Very nice place a huge room nice set up kitchen the pricing was very good. We booked it for 120 quiet area the reception was very nice and polite. It is one of the best motel I ever stayed in
Everything was as described, only (minor) complaint was that the floors were a little dirty/dusty but other than that, it was perfect. And the outdoor area for the dogs is awesome, lots of space!
Only stayed for one night, visiting family in area. I booked a “Premium full suite” on the actual red roof site. First room was in disarray ( stained bedding, broken phone and dirty bathroom). Room (111) Asked to switch room immediately. Second room was much cleaner. Motel is quiet and room was big. Good location. Nice staff. Just need some TLC, would expect more for the area.

One of New England's most beautiful town green's in the colonial tradition. It is so fun to stand in the green and imagine what the surrounding streets looked like and how the green itself remains the same. Sure trees come and go and sidewalks were a
Iâve eaten here twice before, and thinking back on their black bean burger had me feeling I should leave a review! As a vegan, itâs one of the tastiest sandwiches Iâve ever had and my dad and I will always stop in when visiting Connecticut. On
We enjoyed the food at the place. Serwis was very friendly but a little slow. We wait for food
quite some time. Maybe because place was very busy, but was worth to wait.
