Red Roof PLUS+ & Suites Birmingham – Bessemer - Featured Reviews (180)
My husband and our three boys regularly go on road trips and have stayed at many hotels but I am pretty sure this was our best experience yet. Danny at the front desk was very helpful and professional. She was exceptional. Pam and Cynthia were also very pleasant and kind. I was impressed by our room...very spacious with lots of amenities. The bed was comfortable and a/c worked well. Pool and hot tub were a huge hit with the kids. We were not originally going to stop in Bessemer but now in the future we will plan to stay here.
Travelers beware!! I don't leave negative reviews, but I don't want anyone to experience what we did during our overnight stay. I was meeting my sister and mom to pick up a dog we rescued in Texas (I couldn't take it with me on the plane), and this hotel was located around the halfway point. We were exhausted and drove about 12 hours each that day. My sister had made a reservation online a couple days prior, specifically for a pet-friendly room. When we arrived to the hotel that evening, she was told that they were "out" of pet-friendly rooms, even though she'd reserved one. The lady at the front desk told her that we could have a room on the second floor but that the elevator wasn't working. We carried our luggage, the dog, and carried the dog's crate upstairs by hand. My sister paid the $100 pet deposit, and we were trying to get settled in for the night. Before we went to sleep for a few hours before driving back, I wanted to let the dog out one more time. This was around 11:30 PM at this point. As soon as I was helping the dog down the stairs to go outside, I heard two gentleman, one older and one younger, raising their voices. "YOU CAN'T BE IN HERE!" is what they shouted but didn't think they were talking to me, so I continued to walk outside. The younger one followed me outside (keep in mind, it's late and dark out), and he told me I wasn't welcome at the hotel because of the dog. I've never seen him before, and he had no idea what had transpired at the front desk just a couple hours before. As it turns out, he was one of the owners, as was the older gentleman, and they LIVE at the hotel, right down the hall from where our room was on the second floor. I tried calmly explaining that my sister had made a reservation, to which he called me a liar to my face, and said he knew I was lying because dogs weren't allowed on the second floor. I called my sister, who was asleep, and asked her to meet me downstairs after the dog was finished outside. It was her reservation, so maybe she would be able to better explain what happened. The man was relentless with her, too, also calling her a liar from the moment she was at the desk. He said that she lied about her reservation (there are cameras there; he could have checked) and asked where her paperwork was, all the while flipping papers around foolishly that WERE hers because her ID was copied. I saw her confirmation as he was sorting through them. We showed him our room keys, and he claimed they weren't ours to use because we "didn't have a reservation" . He cut off our key access while we were there at the desk in front of him. My mom was asleep in bed, and we had no way to get to her if something happened. He asked who put us in the room, to which we described the woman (who had been nice to us). He immediately issued us new keys and said we could leave. WHAT A JOKE. That's all he said- no apology, nothing. The next morning, my mom and I were loading the rental car, and we heard the older gentleman from down the hall yelling our room number and scoffing from outside his room. I don't get to see my family very often, but the staff at this hotel, more particularly the owners, made this exhausting trip miserable. I would highly encourage anyone traveling, especially with pets, to find somewhere else to stay. Our stay was horrible.
I was there for a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes. 1st they told me one price over the phone and i was n their parking lot but when i walked in no rooms available at that price. Fine but what wasnt fine was the weed smoking n the hotel hall, elevator and drug deals n parking lot!! I want a refund i do not recommend staying here unless ur n2 that type of shady stuff!
The personal was very professional and polite. The rms are very well kept, clean, no issues with the air or heat. The pillows could be softer (they were very stiff). Larger towels would be nice. 2 small towels and 2 face clothes and 2 hand towels just isn't enough for 2 adults. We we're very disappointed that there wasn't at least a continental breakfast especially for the price of the rm.
Positive: Close to food and interstate. Nice staff. Negative: The hotel is filthy & smelled like smoke. They tried to cover it, but it didn't work. The shower was disgusting; it had mold in the seams that was easily wiped away. Hair on the sheets, on the walls, on the toilet. Room phone was broken. It's sketchy! Negative: ""
We stayed at the Bessemer RED ROOF Inn 3 nights in June to help with our grandchildren as our son & daughter-in-law moved out of state. Cassidy welcomed us when we checked in, was very kind & friendly. …
This place smelled of marijuana really bad. The tub faucet was leaking alot of water, there was no shampoo, and the elevator was iffy, so I decided to use the stairs. Think I'll avoid this hotel next time I'm in Bessemer.
First thing I was greeted by a rude guy at the front desk. Then I get to my room. There was no coffee maker and no plug for the tub. (I have small kids that needed a bath) also after waking up my kids and I try to go get breakfast and the jerk at the front desk says they don't serve breakfast. There was extreme noise coming from the staff all night.

Stopped here for the night after driving all day from Houston. This weary traveler got the best greeting from Shelby who checked me in. What a pleasant young lady. The room was nice and the AC was running. This is a big deal since it was 100 degrees
