Good spot with a fun menu. Service can sometimes be a little on the slower side but that's because they can get pretty busy. Staff is friendly and the food is good, but a bit pricey. I don't drink but the bar area seems pretty neat. Parking is no longer an issue now that downtown Gainesville has parking decks and road work is done with. Can get a little loud inside depending where you get seated.
I ordered fish n chips and had high hopes with it being a self-proclaimed pub, but unfortunately the breading was burnt and over fried, and the fish was watery and bland inside. I tried pushing past to enjoy it, but it was pretty disappointing. The fries were good, but come on, everyone’s fries should be good at this point. Service was nice and it’s a chill spot, but don’t order the fish n chips. Should’ve gotten a burger
Good food. A little pricey. Waiter didn't get our drink order. Brought food and I had to ask for a brew. Good pub vibe though!
I always enjoy when historic downtown areas reinvent themselves with new shops and restaurants. Recess is a good example of the potential it has a diverse Southern menu at good prices. The portions are sizable, well-presented, and tasty. We sat at the bar due to big crowd on a Tuesday evening. That’s always a good sign. Our server/bartender worked hard and was making lots of drinks, while staying attentive. I’ll definitely be back when in the area again.
I've eaten at Recess a couple times since moving to Hall County. We enjoy the atmosphere and usually sit at the bar. It's a great spot for a weekday date night. On our most recent visit, I ordered the burger of the week, buffalo blue cheese and bacon. It is the best burger I've had in Hall County. Not a lot of restaurants serve a good medium rare burger, but the temp on theirs was perfect.
Love the atmosphere, friendly staff. Fresh ingredients. I just wish more spices were used. Great location too, you can walk the downtown square and go eat dinner.
Alrighty, first time trying this little spot! Overall impressed, the staff was fantastic. They were very busy and we could tell understaffed on this Monday night. Busy is a great sign! We were still greeted right away, even though our server wasn’t there as soon as we sat down she did greet us. So sweet! The house old fashioned was well mixed and crab cakes were out of this world. Now tonight we got both specials, the duck breast and the halibut. Both well cooked dishes with great components just a little under seasoned. Will definitely be back to give their signatures a try. Good job staff 👏🏼
Great high quality dishes! The few times I have been here, I am always very pleased. The staff is great, and the dishes they serve always look and taste great. I highly recommend the Pim Burger, and the Fish Tacos!
