There are some points that the trail track is not so obvious. I thought I was on track but actually walked away the trail and down as much 50 yards where I could not go any further and had to climb back up, which was wet and tough. That took half an hour and had to be quite careful because there are quite some rotten trunks that would not support an adult’s weight. Overall is quite a pleasant hike with extremely fresh forest smell and a little bit of view down at the town and ships.

Very beautiful hike that is not far from town. I took an uber to get to the far end of the trail by the college and then it's an easy walk back to town from the closer end of the trail.

Totally enjoyed this hike. Went with a first time hiker and he was able to easily do it. There are a lot of rocks so make sure of your footing. There were areas where you could actually see the cruise port. We took a taxi to the trail head which worked out perfectly. The weather was perfect. Would recommend to anyone doing a cruise to the town.

Sweet and simple trail close to downtown and cruise dock. 10 min taxi ride from cruise dock, about 12 usd. If you're short on time best way to get a glimpse of the majestic tongas national park. The shades of green and size of trees you see will be nothing short of spectacular. There are 3 points of entry - we got in from parking and out from South Side and took us about 40mins (including picture time)

Great little hike near town, I recommend you start at the school and work your way back.

Gorgeous hiking trail through the evergreen rainforest. Honestly, the toughest part is reaching it on foot from the town. Waterproof hiking boots and solid gear to put against ample local rain are highly recommended. Many a person comes down with a mud-caked posterior. A note: Regard the map of the trail. One half is maintained and the other half is not. If nervous about the wilder side of the trail, then there is a clear path that allows you to exit to the roadway. The sidewalk runs to town.

Beautiful hike! We went first thing in the morning and had the entire trail to ourselves. We recommend starting on the south access (the road) and ending at the college. The only lookout you’ll see is right at the beginning, so don’t miss it! They’ve added boulders and rocks as “stairs” for you to climb, but sometimes they actually made it more difficult. It’s steep in some places so make sure you have hiking boots, not sneakers. You likely won’t, but make sure you’re prepared if you do see a black bear (stand totally still, they’ll get bored of you). Make sure when you reach the end, you call Zac with Sourdough taxi to take you to your next adventure!

Nice short hike. Not terribly difficult but this with mobility issues might have problems. Enter from university entrance instead of by the cruise ships for a less steep climb up front. Nice escape from the bustle of the town and stretch your legs. Took us about 2 hours but we walked slow and took lots of pictures.

Beautiful lake! You can get a free shuttle to downtown from the cruise ship port, and then it’s a long and pretty steep incline walk through some neighbourhoods to the trail head. That’s the hardest part done! Only then a very short steep walk an

Was tough, harder than I expected. Hiking from sea level up to 900+ m would be fine, but last 250 m of height was in snow (June 7). Trail was 1 to 2 meters below the snow so it did not help too much :-). In some areas it was so steep that I grabbed t
