As a newcomer to hospital stays, grappling with a recent Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis, Nurse Aid Lucy provided exceptionally supportive care. During a particularly challenging moment when my primary nurse, Mindy, was unavailable and I experienced a severe reaction to the 1,000-milligram steroid IV injections, Nurse Aid Lucy seamlessly took charge. She connected with my family, doctors, and fellow nursing staff, ensuring prompt and effective care. Nurse Aid Lucy went above and beyond, providing me with a profound sense of comfort and reassurance throughout my hospital experience.
The ER Doc, David Gerber MD suggested my limb, back and abdominal pain was anxiety. Ran urine, blood & kidney tests all of which indicated I had a bladder & kidney infection and he just discharged me! Told me I was fine. I saw my primary physician (remotely, same day) who confirmed I should have been given IV antibiotics & IV fluids. I'd never been to an ER. All in all, it was an awful experience. The nurse refused to give me my test results when I asked. I knew something was wrong, and sure enough when I showed my lab results to my primary physician (after the nurse finally relinquished them to me) the data confirmed 2 infections, kidney & bladder. This ED Department is not competent. If you need emergency care I would absolutely go elsewhere.
Dr. Bellino most likely had one of the most extreme cases of degraded hip to fix in his career. He has an amazing manner, explained exactly what he was going to do and all I should know prior, during and after surgery. He is a magician! As bad as it was, 8 days later I was able to wlak without an aid, I have been pain free and I am blown away by how amazing my new 'parts' work and feel. Even my scar is amazing!

As I was a tourist, I was in the ER because of an encounter between a sea urchin and my hand where the wrist had become infected. The doctor spoke to me for about 1 minute and prescribed an antibiotic. All good with that. Total cost $1637.04. Bills came in three parts. Surprisingly, in the hospital, I got a discount of roughly $200 for which I did not ask. Back home I got the bill for the physician and another bill from the hospital of roughly $200. Links to pay the latter online did not work, so I had to call from Germany to be able to make the payment.
I recently had an MRI (with contrast) performed on my legs, which turned out to be a total of 30 minutes for the entire time I was at the hospital. I just received my bill; and shockingly, this hospital billed my insurance (HMSA) $7,153.20!! This kind of price gouging is criminal and inexcusable. A few months ago, I had an MRI with contrast performed in Oregon on a lower extremity as well, and it was only $1599. So, why is this hospital charging patients over $7,000 for the same location with contrast?!! It is horrendous how you are taking advantage of patients while we are all suffering from rampant inflation and higher costs for everything. Shame on you.
I went into the ER department last night for an infected burn on my son’s hand. Immediately upon arriving they were looking at him as if he were a victim of abuse. Not because of the burn, but because he’s a 16 month old that just learned to walk and had a couple bruises on each side of his forehead. Lil guy gets into everything, I never thought that would even be questioned 🤦🏻♀️.
A blonde nurse had no problem looking at me sideways from the jump. The doctor that came in said “it could be anyone we are not accusing you” but you were. Because I’m his sole caretaker. So you were DIRECTLY accusing me. Even the Radiologist you guys sent in that night said “I’m sorry you have to go through this, I hope you have a better night”. That same doctor came back in apologizing after keeping me there for an 1 1/2 hours longer than necessary.
You(doctor) then proceeded to tell me that you just moved here from a level 1 trauma center where you saw a lot of PED trauma, so you’re sorry for the inconvenience, you hope Im not afraid to come back to the hospital again, and your mother was also accused of abuse she didn’t commit but ‘haha’ you’re fine. So I fit some sort of unspoken narrative? Was it the bruises on MY knees from cleaning my floors?? Or my unshaven legs? Disheveled hair? You assumed I’m the type that hits kids? What the actual HECK?
NO ONE EVER TREATED THE REAL REASON WE WENT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! THE SAME NURSE LOOKING AT ME SIDEWAYS SAID SHE WASN'T GOING TO BANDAGE HIS HAND BUT GAVE A CREAM TO TAKE HOME!!!!!
I will admit I did get cross because this was absolutely absurd to me. I did apologize to everyone for my behavior before leaving. But no as a matter of fact I will never be returning to your hospital. I would rather drive the extra 50 miles to another.
This is the second actually HORRIBLE experience I’ve had here. First at the BIRTH OF MY SON and now this. I cannot believe the way I was treated last night. At 8pm on July the 2nd.
We had a near tragic event occur when leaving your hospital and it nearly led to the death of our newborn due to your practices and inconsistency of care, at this point it's been 5 weeks since our discharge at Hilo Medical from these issues and the child is in good health minus some emotional trauma we are still dealing with. My Partner and I still are dealing with the trauma we experienced, we are still waking up nightly with bad dreams and shaking with the memories of what happened.
Personally as a mother I cannot get the sensation out of my head from holding my nearly dying infant son, who was unresponsive during the car drive from your facility to Hilo Medical. My Partner is still dealing with the Fugue state he was put in while our emergency situation occurred, he has Fibromyalgia and PSA which have been flaring up so badly he has troubles walking and with pain due to all the stress from this incident.
Incident break down:
Day of discharge I was having difficulty breast feeding and our son was circumcized. At discharge my son had not eaten in 6 hours and I was concerned making the two hour drive home with him not having eaten due to him being lethargic from the circumcision and him not wanting to latch that morning. I felt that the nurse was pressuring us out so I figured we would try to stop on the way home to feed and everything would be alright. When we were being discharged we had some questions about the car seat and wanted to make sure it was set up properly and safely for the baby to travel home in. It was then that we were told for the first time that the hospital was not car seat certified and that they couldn't inspect the car seat for us, instead we were told that it looks good and we should be fine. We were advised to get the baby home and to visit a fire station to have the car seat inspected. If we would have known this we would have gone to the fire station prior to labor and delivery. Instead we were put into a situation which caused my son to become hypothermic and lethargic on our drive home resulting in a body to him medical centers emergency room.
Not that you want to have to visit an ER, but this one was excellent. The staff was caring and efficient. Everyone kept us informed of what was happening and estimated timelines. The MRi tech was awesome it making sure that I was ok during the MRI. Can’t say enough good things about them.

I visited this most amazing GJâs Huli Chicken by pure chance and let me tell you- THE BEST CHICKEN I HAVE EVER HADâ-HANDS DOWN. Initially- from the roadside, we saw the rolling smoke as the chickens were being cooked, then decided to stop and see
Beautiful canyon. We could not view certain parts due to fog. The waimea lookout was completely not visible the day we were out there but I hear itâs beautiful on a clear day. We were still happy with the parts we saw. A beautiful scenery and drive
I did a morning 2 tank charter with the Blue Wilderness crew and it was awesome! The team and captain were super personable and upbeat throughout the morning, gave thorough dive briefings and split the divers into two groups (beginner and advanced) w

Awesome customer service the food is delicious and vegetarian friendly. The spicy veggie ramen was 10/10 and the toasty onigiri was the perfect texture! We will definitely be back.
We had such a great time here for dinner! The vibe was on point and service was friendly and quick. We got a flight sampler and some food. Food tasted great and priced reasonably especially compared to a lot of places on the Big Island. Parking was l
Excellent park with picnic tables and a stream! Kiddo loves chasing the chickens and there is a short trail (about 1 mile long) to walk. Trail pretty well maintained and no big hills.
This is a super interesting place to see if you are interested in learning about Hawaiian history. There are a lot of ruins here. I wish there was a bit more information available. The area is very open and you are free to explore the paths, I donâ
