Quality Inn & Suites Capitola By the Sea - Featured Reviews (320)
The room was clean and comfortable, although there was a smell from a cleaning product. If you are affected by chemical smells, it’s best to avoid this chain. We had a far worse chemical smell experience at the Quality Inn in a nearby California town, and the problem was acknowledged by an employee who said other guests had complained about it. But getting back to Capitola, the front desk person was touchy when we asked for something which had not been attended to even though we had requested it while making the online reservation. We understand that online requests are sometimes overlooked, but that's not the guests' fault so no need to be touchy! All the rooms have a patio or balcony, and we were happy to see during this visit there was a dowel to ensure the glass door could not be opened from the outside. There is a grab bar in the shower/tub combo. The breakfast has the usual muffins, etc. Unfortunately, there are no healthy choices except for apples and oranges. This property used to have plain instant oatmeal packets, but not this time.
Great hotel for the price, loved that it’s a little tucked away and not in central Santa Cruz. The things I didn’t like was that the room keys kept not working (new employee I think) and that the shower head had a weird spray and wasn’t able to adjust. It made taking a shower less than comfortable and that’s not what you pay to stay at a hotel for. Change the shower heads and this is a 5 star review!
I would give 1 star except all the staff were polite. ||There were so many things wrong with the room, I travel frequently and rarely write a poor review: |the WIFI was too slow to stream videos, |it took 2 days for the TV to be fixed and working, |there was a wooden dowel in the sliding door for security, |there was no safe in the room, |the breakfast was beyond basic (no oatmeal, eggs, sausage etc ), |the room was clean but everything including the furniture was very old, |the room had a bad smell,|they cut every corner, shampoo & conditioner but no body wash. A microwave (broken, the plate didn't rotate) & sink but no papertowels, napkins etc. A weirdly large room but not enough furniture or lights to use it.||I picked this for location to be near family, I should have paid more and stayed somewhere else!
(UPDATE: DO NOT STAY HERE. Since writing this review and checking out yesterday, someone at this hotel just ran my credit card Again today. They will run your credit card multiple times. My total was $246.20 and they ran my card an ADDITIONAL $615.50) The male who checked me in failed to tell me there would be major disruptive construction in my building and the building next to mine. My stay was supposed to be for 3 nights. I checked out a day early due to noise and walking out of my room into a construction zone. Had I not checked with the front desk 5 minutes prior(I happened to be stepping out at the same time) my room would have gotten a door handle replacement along with a ton of sawdust all over my belongings. I had requested a do not disturb upon check in and even then, the guy was about to go into my room anyway. I decided to check out then and there. I didn't see any other cars or guests during my stay, and the agent rudely suggested that 5 other guests in my building were all informed of the construction and that I was the only one who had an issue with it. Sure. The exit/entrance doors to my building were obstructed as I loaded my vehicle and also FILTHY. On top of this, the man charged my card 3 times for 3 different amounts. This happened before with the same male agent. I could only assume because because he is trying to upset me or because he is incompetent. Either way is not a good look for any establishment. The only positive thing to say about this place is the woman who has helped me in the past at the front desk is excellent. Also, one of the only areas where there aren't any homeless encampments near by. That's it! Glad to take my business elsewhere.
I have been coming to this hotel for many years. The hotel itself has always been very comfortable peaceful and relaxing and nice rooms. However this time My stay was quite troubled due to the attitude of the employee at the front desk. An angry little man named Patel was very rude to me during breakfast time and when I asked for a little bit of a later check out he said no and hung up the phone. I know for a fact there was only a few other people staying at this hotel at the time and no one was checking in so he definitely could have let me have a lete checkout. I had to go to surgery at 2:30 that day so that's why I wanted a little extra waiting time in the room but he was very rude and just hung the phone up on me. Next one I went into the office to ask for a receipt he was extremely rude and told me I did not follow the hotel rules and was yelling loudly in a very unprofessional manner.
Won't stay here again. Took the desk clerk over 20 minutes to get back to the lobby desk and no one there to check us in after a long drive. No elevators and I just had surgery and had to haul luggage up 2 flights of stairs..all the units are separate dwellings it's a run down place
This was a renovated apartment complex so the layout is only two stories. The hotel's pool is outside and it is big enough for four people. The complementary breakfast room has a minimum selection; every day you have waffles, two options of fruit, coffee, juice, tea, pastries, bread for toast, yogurt, and cereal with 2%milk. The place allows clients to have extended stays so every room is equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, closet, safe, dresser, two nightstands a desk one lounge chair, a TV, a bathroom, and a bed. There are several offices nearby so the area can get packed during the week but it's clear by late afternoon. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The area of the hotel is quiet and clean, with no rift-raft. there are several locations near for shopping for groceries and to eat. The hotel has a nice large bathtub for soaking in or taking a shower, with provided full-size shampoo and conditioners. We did stay during the last weeks of Aug. which is considered off-season so we didn't have many neighbors. If you are in a wheelchair please alert them before you go, I didn't see or find any elevators. Also sometimes the keys did not properly work when getting into the Breakfast room. I was never advised about early checkout, we had to leave at 6 a.m. The lobby was not open then so we left the keys in the room.
This is a great place! We had no complaints! Rooms for just sleeping were more than adequate. Clean. Quiet. Location to leave car for the day and walk a mile to beach and eateries and shops is great and you won't have to pay to park nor look for as place to park. Breakfast has variety, minus protein, but cereal, toast, waffles, fruit, coffee, juice, milk. We will be back.
Very good beer, nice staff, nice patio Despite being close to the highway, itâs very quiet on the patio (which has maybe ten tables). A choice of about ten beers on tap. We tried Pilsner, IPA and Porter. All good. Dogs welcome.
Beautiful stay. Just steps from downtown, yet private and romantic. Our room was spacious, clean and cozy; if thereâs something you need, just ask! Wonderful welcome from the owner & very accommodating staff. Breakfast was delicious. We will be ba
Vibrant coffee shop with tons of wonderful drinks. You're sure to find a flavor combo you like with so many delicious options. I got the Sicilian latte, many delicious flavors to get and combine with food and a colorful atmosphere. Definitely will be
Super fun place to eat because there are so many options to try. The Marionberry pie was just sweet enough. Roasted tomato ficelle (clothespin thin, foot-long sandwich) was addicting to eat and gone in a flash. Line is long but well-managed by frien
Beautiful day at the beach!!! Very few people mostly walking dogs. Little breezy and sunny. Calm ocean. Few birds. Clean open restrooms. Beach itself is a bit different from last year. Winter storms took a third of the beach out and pushed the rest c
This eatery feels open with bright pops of color defining its interior. The food came quickly. The tinga tacos were scrumptious! The combination of meat and sauces worked beautifully! The shrimp burrito was perfectly made, chewy and flavorful. The pi
This place is amazing! We spent over 3 hours here and my son didn't get bored at all. They did a very good job at using every single space & turned each space into a different learning experience. I also appreciate them being apart of the all kids ca
Great place. Those colorful little houses give their own character to the beach. If you are lucky and you visit on a clear day you will relax under the soft touch of the sun. On the other hand if the ocean gets more tricky you will have the opportuni
Amazingly beautiful! The views are breathtaking. The rooms are spacious, clean and relaxing. 5 minute walk to the beach yet set in peaceful seclusion. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I love it. I would say it's definitely my favorite spot.
