Very clean restrooms, drive in its cheaper than walk ins. If your are interested in there culture and open to knowledge then a must visit. Stay for the live talk from an actual local and take the self tour with very great views which you can see the snorkel beach next door. You can also take a picnic if you drive to the left side where the restrooms are located it's a very small drive and plenty of benches and the ocean view. Great views and I say can be done in 1 1/2 hrs if u stay for the talk.

Ancien village traditionnel hawaiien.

If you enjoy history this a is a great day. If you enjoy Hawaiian history and culture it doesn’t get any more authentic than Pu’uhonua. This is a sacred site that served as a sanctuary in old Hawaii for those that were seeking sanctuary or a wanted a new lease on life. Pu’uhonua also served as a meeting place for chiefs on neutral ground as well as a reserve for rest and renewal. Just a short 45 min drive south of Kona if you visited the Volcano or have yet to you can pay for the park pass and get entry to all of the National Parks including this one. I highly recommend downloading the NPS app (National Park Service) and finding the walking or AUDIO tour. Start at the theater to watch 28 min video that sets up what you will see that day. Then make sure you take in this living museum. Take plenty of picture, walk the place where chiefs walked, and play a game of Hawaiian checkers. In selected days in the afternoons there are cultural reenactment and displays though I didn’t see these. This was a highlight for me on our trip and made for a great day when also stopping at the Royal Farms Coffee Mill. Grab some poke or Donkey Balls on the drive home and you’ve had an awesome day!

This location is a true cultural and natural oasis! The unique exhibits beautifully unfold history, and the "Two Steps" beach with excellent snorkeling opportunities adds an unforgettable adventure touch. The special experience of observing turtles is simply captivating.

Amazingly beautiful, historic, spiritual experience. Delighted by the wildlife, on land and in the lakes and ocean. You could was nenes a d fish spawn, goats graze, there were craft exhibits with Hawaiians showing their heritage, and the Rangers were well versed in the spiritual aspects of the place, which I never take for granted.

Beautifully kept park. Great for watching the sunset. We used our America the Beautiful pass here. They also offer a Hawaii Triple park pass for their 3 NP which could save you money if you plan to hit those three parks and don't plan to get an annually America the Beautiful pass.

A visit to the Big Island is not complete without a visit to Pu'uhonua O Honaunau. It's such a grounding and sacred place that connects one to the rich history and culture of native Hawaiians. This was my 3rd visit and we lucked out with Hilton as our Plant Walk tour guide. It was special to have someone who cared so much for the place give us information on not just the plants but the larger cultural history and significance of the place. I hope the park will continue to develop this aspect of the tours and site to deepen the experience of visiting such a meaningful place.

It was 20 for a carload. As I overheard someone say. It is a spiritual place. One that is peaceful and with stunning views. A must gi to spot. You could see many types of fish in the waters, as well.
