Such a great place, packed with treasures! It's truly amazing how much is artfully displayed in, what is actually, a small building. There is also a conference room which can be rented for different organizations. A guide is available for touring the Beard Cabin and the actual Train Depot.
As a hack genealogist, I've visited history museums and genealogy libraries all over the US. This one is cream of the crop both in quality of displays and staff knowledge and helpfulness. The artifacts are beautifully organized, presented and cared for. The building is spotless, and it doesn't have the musty old smell that's common in this type of facility ... It is obvious that the staff and entire community take great pride in its history adequately support it. Ken Landry was fantastic. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the area and his materials are all scanned and organized into folders by family. He wasn't immediately familiar with the family we are researching, but as soon as we found a hint in one of the early directories, he was off and provided a lot of previously unknown information and was able to quickly find a photo of the hotel they ran. He's an amazing resource, and every other person in the museum was just wonderful, warm and welcoming. (The Pottawatomie County Facebook page is great too, and frequently updated.) This is the model that other counties should look to in honoring their history and helping visitors to the area.
Wonderful place! Fantastic collection. You can run the trains! Very nice lady working there discussed many things with us. Really loved this place!
Love this place well worth seeing it lotsa of history and very friendly people to show you it
I've been here twice to see it and it was closed both times.
Fairly small museum, but very good exhibition, Native collections, WW1, WW2 features and pictures, articles of different regimens, some agricultural artifacts, and some from the beginning of the 18 and 19 century. Also famous people from Oklahoma in general. Very entertaining for the price. Great value.
Loved it!!!! Truly amazing to see all the old stuff and hear the history inside!!!
We had a great time. It was a last minute decision and glad we did. I spent most of my time in the school while my son played with the trains. It was clean and not busy at all, will definitely return to see the rest.

Nestled in Old Downtown in Shawnee you will find a throwback lunch cafe serving up great sandwiches, loaded spuds, soups, salads, and daily specials...oh, and the Dessert First counter...at The Lunch Box . I had the Southwest Turkey Club, a nicely p
This place has a very nice comforting aesthetic. The coffee was delicious, the food was pretty good too. It was also a reasonable price to come in and paint with my daughter. I'd love to host an event here at some point.
Service was great, the waitress was friendly, quick, and on top of everything. Food was great both for breakfast and lunch. Inside was clean and spacious. Will be back to try more of the many breakfast options for sure.
This was my first time going to Dutch Bros, and I am glad I picked the Shawnee location as my first time. Not knowing what to order, I asked the employee that was helping take my order who also happened to be the store manager, Dawson. He was very he
Great place for coffee and a quick breakfast! We stopped in and grabbed a vanilla latte, salted caramel latte, and a couple of breakfast croissants. So good!! Highly recommend.
He knows what he is doing with that meat!! Ribs are the best in this area don't taste like apple juice like another local place, trims the meat just right (balance fat to meat). Brisket is wild good. Good smoke ring and juicy every time. Coleslaw bal
We went for just an hour earlier tonight and played two rounds of pool. One thing thatâs good to note is theyâre cash only! And the pool tables are pretty standard and cost 4 quarters to play per game. They have an ATM there but it was struggling
