This place is great for working out and you’ll definitely learn a thing or two if you’re a beginner, but you won’t get much farther than that.
The instructors focus more on getting an intense workout, not proper form or technique. Sparring is only done once a week, and I really didn’t learn anything else aside from the basics of boxing after a year.
If you’re in it to get shredded, this is your place, but if you’re here to get better at boxing, you’re better off going elsewhere.
Welcoming, supportive and fun environment with options for boxing and kickboxing from beginner to advanced. I especially enjoy the kickboxing fundamentals classes by coaches Paul and Phillip. I have built so much strength and skill in just a few short months even though I was a complete beginner. I love that sparring is available but not required.
LOVE THIS BOXING GYM! The people are amazing and welcoming, the trainers are incredible and knowledgeable, price is unbeatable! Classes will have you dripping sweat, no doubt. People want you to succeed here and are cheering you on. Welcoming and inclusive to LGBQTIA+ and BIPOC. Overall, amazing time at this gym.
This gym is a go to for authentic boxing. Jai is a solid instructor and the gentleman who runs it is there to empower people. I box in Phoenix and was pleasantly surprised with the talent out here.
A bit conflicted with this gym as my boyfriend and I went on and off for about a year. The parking sucks if you are trying to go in the evening times - but that's not really their fault. The classes itself is a good work out - however this gym focuses more on burning a lot of calories without teaching proper form and technique.
PROS - Rates are very reasonable, a good size facility where you can work on your own bag, small section for weight lifting is available, classes do burn a lot of calories so expect to burn around 500+ calories per class. A lot of availability of class times to choose from which can work with anyone's schedule.
CONS - Parking sucks. Although the weight room is there, if there's more than 2-3 people in it, it gets too crowded. Sometimes there's kids/teens who just hangs out in the weight room and just takes up space but they're not really working out. The coaches do not really teach you specific form and they throw very large combinations towards a class that's predominantly beginners. If my bf and I are confused with the combos and we've been doing boxing for years now - then no doubt would the beginners be confused too. The coaches sometimes do not go around and help and correct form. But again ,these classes are structured to help you burn a lot of calories and make you move a lot. But in terms of learning technique for boxing? It's an area of needed improvement.
Friday morning kickboxing at 9am is my favorite time of the week. Coach Philip has helped me grow so much in this sport.
Portland City Boxing has been excellent. I joined the gym about a month ago after using fight camp for a year. It’s been a great transition to in person boxing fitness. Everyone is super friendly, inviting, and encouraging. The work outs are awesome. The atmosphere is very inclusive. Very glad to have joined this community.
Really enjoy the conditioning classes. They’re tough and push your limits, but are rewarding as heck! Great coaches, positive vibes. Happy I joined. 🥊

I love this spot. They have one of the best cappuccinos in Portland. The staff is always kind, and friendly. And the tunes are always on point.
Pro tip: ask for sugar crunchies on your capp. You wonât regret it!
