Portillo's Tucson - Fast food restaurant in Tucson - 3761 E Broadway Blvd, USA

The experience begins at the front counter where the order is placed. Once we made it to the register, I said hello and let our cashier know it was our first time there, we received a smile back. I am glad we live in times where most people go on google and look at the menu, reviews and so on. We knew what we wanted and so we ordered our food-- almost walked away without a drink.... ahhh I was just so excited for the food-- my partner reminded me and so we ordered the drink. I remember being the face of a"fast" food restaurant many years ago; boy did I talk up the menu and upsold like crazy. No hard feelings on the cashier-- but to the managers, let your team know it is important to be just a little more personable. -Know your audience- ***The taste of the food made up for the overall experience. Huge thanks to the kitchen 🙌🏽 The Polish Sausage had a great flavor and char as did the sausage from the Italian beef (soft and juicy meat--NOT OILY) combo. (DIP IT, DROWN IT IN GRAVY!) The Chicken Tenders had a nice crisp to them but the breading needs a little umph flavor--the giardianera dipping sauce helped. Cheese sauce and crinkle cut fries 🍟 YUMMM!*** 11.25.2023 9ish pm

Hot dogs were good. I enjoyed the bun. Very soft and fresh. The chocolate cake was delicious. They serve beer. The beer was much larger than I anticipated. I would go back again. I saw they offered a vegetarian hotdog option.

Finally, the Chicago dog has come back to Tucson. Oh, and don't forget the Italian beef, Polish dogs and amazing shakes. Service was quick and amazing. Considering that a Big Mac and fries for two is $27.00. I would eat here before Mickey D's any day!!!

My first time here while staying in Tucson. I had the Italian beef with extra gravy, added an order or sweet peppers and a chocolate cake shake. Food was served quickly and the service was friendly. An employee was going around the dining room, asked if we needed anything, and he refilled our waters. The sandwich was delicious and just the right size.with the small shake (which seemed large) I won't be eating dinner. I will return if in the area.

We were excited to try out Portillo's for the first time. I was first surprised by the prices. Its a bit expensive for what they offer. The Chili Dog was okay. The Portillo Dog is probably you best bet. The chili is very bland. But the Bun (and all bread) is fantastic and the Dogs have a 'snap'. Full marks on the dog. The Beef is bland as well. The 'gravy' is really just some extra grease. I think in Tucson we got spoiled by Lukes. Those were amazing Chicago style tubular meats and meat sandwiches. I can only guess that they keep it bland so they can't keep the older customers coming back. Great place to bring a family / kids. We probably won't come back but it was nice to give it a try.

Walking in the atmosphere was amazing hundreds of things on the walls and hanging from ceiling. Very hard to find where to order the distractions of all the stuff at the front made it difficult to find the line. Once in line I'm able to see the menu and the teasing board realized that even though they were combo numbers that is not how you were charged or how the meals were put together everything is al-a-cart. No.1 Italian Beef Sandwich 9.99 Lrg Fries 3.99 - Sm Tea 2.50 - shake 4.29 $21 for 1 meal! Plus .75 if you want the peppers that are shown on the sandwich poster. Rodeo Burger 8.39 - Sm Tea 2.50 - eclair 4.89 we shared the fries. Once you ordered your food you were asked to sit down in the extremely loud almost high school cafeteria seating area and watch a 42 inch TV until your number bag danced on the screen or listen for your number over a vintage 60s squat box that you couldn't hear. Overall the cleaning staff was fast and courteous, the kitchen was moving but not keeping up with orders and the counter crew was really good at up selling you on items that should be standard. $40 for lunch for 2 isnt unheard of these days but leaving unhappy or just not impressed makes it a hard meal to swallow. If you have extra cash and are near you can try ot but nothing to go on a road trip (as we did from Avra Valley) to just "go try".

A really cool place to hang out and enjoy Chicago style plates like Chicago dogs, beef sandwich, spicy chicken, hamburgers, fries, onion rings, pickles, and shakes.
