Beautiful gem hidden way. Not very busy but so lovely. White soft sand and so much to explore. The water is clean and gets deeper gradually. Large beach with plenty of space. Highly recommend to make a stop here.
On your way to the lighthouses on the northern side of the Sturgeon Bay canal, take a few minutes to check portage park out. It's a little park with incredible views of lake Michigan, and a ten minute walk to the point rewards you with sweeping views of the rocky coast, where a distant flashing red light beckons from the coast guard lighthouse.
This is a fun little park. Parking is limited but overall not too much of a hassle. A nice and easy walk to the sand beach and Lake Michigan. I look forward to visiting again.

Portage Park is great for swimming with ample space to spread out away from others. The beach is pebbly near the water line but becomes sandy further into the water. There were also areas of smooth sand to lay down towels. Water shoes are recommended.
There isn't really a parking lot, so be prepared to park wherever you find an open spot.
It’s one of our best-kept secrets, such a peaceful beach in Lake Michigan. I love coming out here in the fall and winter.

Nice trails with no pets just the birds and the ducks as well as turtles and well shaded for a cool walk on a steamy afternoon. Had some benches along the trail to sit and enjoy a quiet view

Short hiking trails along the shore were great, loved all the rocks. Water was very clear. Cliff jumped here in the past and was fun but water was a little shallow that day. Beautiful place!
