Poogan's Southern Kitchen -- Nexton - Southern restaurant (US) in Summerville - 101 Nexton Square Dr, USA

The service and atmosphere was great! We had the crab dip that was delicious! Now the fried chicken and country fried steak was a different story. The breading was way too much! You had to peel off a pound to get to the meat. The chicken was subpar and the steak was tough. The sides were good but the breading was way too much! I may comeback to try the desserts.

Started with the calamari appetizer and it was good. The red rice side was ok just a little dry for my taste. I also tried the lowcounty chicken soup and it has a good taste but I felt they could do better as a flavor profile. I also ordered the chicken fried pork chop entree and it had a very good taste except with the crispy pork chop placed on top of the mashed potatoes and then the peas and pearl onions placed on top the crispy pork chop had its nice crispy crust tuned into mush. A bit unfortunate because I love a crispy outer crust but to each their own likes and dislikes. For the finale dessert I ordered the banana pudding and it just bananas pudding in a mason jar with whipped cream on top with 2 vanilla wafers placed on top. For a cocktail drink I ordered the Captains Sash it it was very,very good.

Stay away! This was probably the worst dinning experience I've had in the lowcountry! I personally hated the atmosphere. I absolutely loathed the lighting. Our waitress was non existent the entire meal other than taking our order and bringing the food. Nobody got a refill until I asked for the check and even then we had to ask for a refill! Started with the calamari app. Do not recommend, no real meat mostly crunchy breading. The hot honey sauce that went with it was a strange combo! The country fried steak was tuff and chewy. The Mac n cheese was extremely salty. The only positive thing was my daughter enjoyed her chicken fried pork chop. Unfortunately this place was a one and done for our family.

Had a nice meal at Poogan’s - not outstanding in any way, but good. They seemed to be a little understaffed, but the servers were trying hard. The wife had the chicken fried pork chop, minus the gravy. It was flavorful and had a little kick. I had the sweet tea salmon, on sweet potato puree and succotash. Salmon was good, but I wasn’t a big fan of the succotash. 7pm on Saturday night - we assumed it would be busy, but it wasn’t. They do take reservations though, and that’s a plus.

5 Stars because my husband and I had a wonderful time together at this restaurant. ☺️ The server (Logan A) was the ⭐best⭐ and helped make our first experience there great! 😃 The Southern Caesar Salad, Chicken & Waffles and Buttermilk Fried Shrimp (with fries) were all delicious. 😋

I don’t be postin much on here about food or restaurants BUT Poogans in Nexton (summerville) is absolutely amazing. Fried chicken sandwich: 10/10 chicken was super crispy and the flavor was perfect. Crab dip: 10/10 nice flavor and tasted perfect with the toast. Pot pie: 8/10 had flavor but needed some salt and pepper. Biscuits: 10000/10 super soft, great flavor, honey drizzle, with a side of sweet butter. Banana pudding 12/10 the best banana pudding I’ve had in a minute it was sooo good. The service was definitely by far the best service kristie was very attentive and super sweet the whole time. I’ve had in a while super sweet staff, the environment was super calming and very friendly. Overall I give poogans a 1000/10

Poogans is the perfect place to bring transplants and your new northern and California neighbour’s to try southern cooking and meals without the shame of taking them to cracker barrel. The food is very good, the service is also pretty nice, and the atmosphere isn’t cluttered or overwhelming. A dinner for 5 was 200$. The bartenders also make a mean expresso martini.

Good location but the food was just ok and the bartender during lunch was a bit snarky. I do not appreciate when the check is delivered with an automatic tip option of 25% being the first option. The bar surface also was sticky and we were told it was "just like that" and even with cleaning it doesn't get any better. I had sanitizing wipes and cleaned it just in case and sure enough it was still sticky. With so many options in this complex I doubt if we will come back. The burger was excellent but the calamari was more breading than anything else.
